After my destruction last August at the BPG nationals, I am finally getting somewhere with my new engine combination. All of the pieces are here so the fun can now begin. This time, however, I have asked Scotty G. (PeeGee) to prep the virgin block and assemble the engine. We've also decided to run it on the dyno to get some numbers. I was seriously thinking of going the stroker route but am saving that for another buildup. This engine will be a 464" featuring a girdle, o-ringed block, aluminum rods, JE pistons and over 13:1 compression. I'll be reusing the TA aluminum stage 1 SE heads that I had on the engine last year (Thanks Greg for repairing them!). They flowed ~330 cfm on the intake and ~240 cfm on the exhaust. I'll post more of the combination as it progresses. I expect this engine to make over 650 hp. Still not enough to compete with the "Sportwagon from Hell" but it should be enough to put me solidly into the 10's. Below are some pictures of the "jewelry" going into the engine. Special thanks to Rob Giroux (robsbuick -aka PBD) for making the aluminum rods for me. Depending on how these work out in my engine, you may see him start cranking these out in addition to all the pulleys, valve covers, centercaps, etc. he's making now.
Those are pretty,I have rebuilt a few engines and always hated to see them nice shiny parts go in the engine never to be seen again,or hopefully never seen again,LOL.
Paul, Do you think you will make to New England Dragway when its done? Would love to see it run. Bret
Hi Paul, Glad to hear things are going well . It sounds like a real monster and yes, you will see the solid ten's. I got the lexen windshield in last week and the tailgate and rear bumper(both fiberglass) should be shipped SOON! I still need to cut the front cross member and lower the steering center link for clearance of the TA girdle and the TA pan. See ya at the TRACK!!!!!!!!!
Bret, now that I've moved to Vermont, I'm actually closer to New England Dragway than I am to Lebanon Valley Dragway so I will certainly be making some trips there. Let me know when you're planning on going and I'll do the same - would like to see your wagon in person! Hey Bill, sounds like you're getting there. I've seen pictures of the tailgate - that looks like a nice piece - too bad the 68 & 70 tailgates aren't interchangeable. How much weight will you be saving by changing out the windshield? I took the easy way out as I didn't want to have to go through modifying the crossmember and steering, at least not yet. I talked to Steve Reynolds and ended up with a modified stock pan from him. Hopefully that will do the trick. Good luck finishing in the next few months!
Looks like the rod I saw at the Big E swap meet. :Brow: Best of luck Paul! On your old engines, were you breaking the small end of the rod?
YO!! Slim Shady, Glad things are lookin up for you. Those rods and pistons do look like jewelry!! I can't wait to see her run. Good Luck my friend :TU:
Hey Paul, "jewlery" looks REAL nice! You must have some kinda hook with that Giroux guy   . Wish I could get a set of them. Looks like you're making sure the "destruction" doesn't happen again going with girdle and those nice rods. Good luck to your build-up and tell Scotty to hurry up with my damn motor already.
I was at Scotty's Sunday dropping off one of Phil's motors. The Buick motors are piling up in the garage and Scotty went to Florida for a week for a big 10" tire race. I guess it will be next month before some Buick motor work rolls out the door. Sorry Dom.
Lookin good Paul!!!! I know it was killing you watching everyone set new personal bests at Atco this year. Events are just better with the Sportwagon in attendance!!!!! Good luck!!
I hear ya on this. I've got a set of JE pistons and a set of Eagle H beams in my motor. Nice and shiney after 2000 miles on short block .
Dom, if I could get ahold of Scotty I'd tell him to hurry up and push your engine thru so he could get started on mine! You've got enough other stuff to take care of first anyway. John, you didn't happen to see my stuff down in Scotty's garage, did you? 5 boxes of parts, fresh heads from Greg and a block and crank?? I dropped the stuff off with Scotty's friend in Stamford, CT on Saturday - just wondering if it made it down to him yet. Hey Johnno, yeah it was killing me to be watching everyone run their quickest times of the year at Atco! With that weather I think I would have gotten my 10.90-something!!! Definitely this year!
Can't Wait To See It Run Let Us Mass Folk's Know When Your Heading To Ne Dragway I Would Love To See It Run With Its New Srt Up :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu: :tu:
No progress to report. Wagon is still sitting, ready for a new powerplant. I talked to Scotty last Friday and he hasn't even started on the block yet. I know he's busy with other motor's (Dom's, Phil's, etc.) but I dropped everything off 6 weeks ago. I'm anxious to get a motor in the car and go racing. Haven't been on a track since Salem - that's now been 7 months already!! I've got to get my engine back before Doug's block gets delivered - then I know his engine's going to take priority! I'll post updates when I hear anything.
