Hello everyone, my name is Mark and I am the proud owner of a 1970 Buick Skylark. Although I have always been a fan of BOP cars, this is my first classic Buick with a real Buick engine. My other Buick was a 1987 Buick T-Type which I sold to buy my first house. I actually found my new Buick while cruising Craigslist for another T-Type or Grand National. Once I found it I just couldn't pass it up. The car is very, very clean. It looks like an ex vinyl top car as the trim is still there. The interior is white and it's complete. The engine is a Buick 350 which runs awesome! I am amazed at how much power this car has. It has absolutely no problems getting out of it's own way. Only upgrades right now was a Petronix Ignitor to eliminate the points. And just a general cleaning of the engine bay. I also installed all new doors and window seals. Future plans call for a GS hood and trunk spoiler. Add the 17" wheels from American Racing. And finally, give it a nice shiny coat of red paint. Then just enjoy the heck out of it.

Welcome to the forum, nice looking car.............

I just ask, please don't put 17" Rims on it  .

You know what, even original Cragar rims are in 17" now and if nothing else, period correct for that era. Even today you pay full price easy for the rare and one year back ordered at least a year in 235/60/15 TA. Myself I think Goodrich stopped making them in that size. MHO

Sales of tires in 14" have almost disappeared now.

lol...I hear you David. But these wheels look just like the factory wheels. Except they are 17X7 front and 17x9 rear. The bigger wheel will give me better choices in performance tires. And it won't detract from the overall stock look.

I got the idea from this picture I found online. Don't know if the owner is a member here but the car looks amazing. The car is obviously dropped. I am also thinking dropped spindles for mine and BMR lowering springs for the rear. I think it will give my car a real nice stance.

Only downside is price....800 bucks per wheel....NO discount at all.

    Only price can you get....period.

Got mine at half price....but the rest of the car...nope. Had to buy the whole car.

I found the wheels on EBay for $1299 for the set. I would have them already but my central a/c system in my house needs to be replaced. Don't even ask me how much that is going to cost. :Dou:

Sean, that's an awesome looking kit. Can it be used on an A/C car?

Right now there is no kit for use with the stock AC but a few people are using the better aftermarket AC with the kit.... It is also possible to build a custom single turbo system and there is even a guy running a huge single turbocharger in his trunk!

And here is a cool thread about the aftermarket AC with the twins...

There are stock Buick 350s and 455 running around reliably on the street with turbo kits installed. Here is some info:

The Buick 350 in particular is a VERY strong engine and perfectly suited to turbocharging without any internal mods. If the engine is a 2 bb version then it is a 9:1 compression which is PERFECT for this application. If the engine is a 4bb then it is a good idea to lower the compression to about 9:1 from 10:1 unless you have E85 fuel in your area in which case it is a GREAT idea to use that with the high compression and turbochargers. Turbochargers make great power witht he stock cam, low compression, and even poorly flowing cylinder heads. When using low boost of about 7 PSI we can gain fuel mileage, add power and not have any reliablity issues as we make more power with lower RPM compared to a naturally aspirated setup of the same power. It is a different story to get into the 15-25 PSI range, we need modifications for that level. The trick is the tuning, a good carb, an air fuel meter, and a custom timing curve will make any engine last a long time with mild boost.

There is a simple bolt on kit that you can use on your Buick 350:

Here is the above kit installed on a worn out 71 STOCK Buick 350. The HP may seem low however keep in mind this was a low HP engine from factory. The torque comes on really low in the RPM range which is perfect for a street car! I built a 398 HP Buick 350 and plan to add about 25 PSI of boost to the engine. At that kind of power level I am using custom forged pistons and rods however the rest of the engine is nothing too special. The car took a lot of work to handle the planned roughly 800 HP in this street legal car. The stock internals are safe to about 500 HP which is plenty for a street car. This car gets about 20MPG.

I will try to post an article I wrote about turbocharging basics in my next post. Feel free to PM me and I hope to get my Book about SBB Performance on the market in the next 6 months so stay tuned.

    Welcome to the forum!!

I am a new member myself, having bought my first Buick, a 1970 Skylark Custom convertible, fire red, with pearl interior, and white top. I think I like the 1970s styling better than any other year!

I recently realized that my '70 Sky has a GS style grille, which doesn't work well for me. I am in the process of buying a Skylark grille since my first love is competing at the local car shows in a factory stock class. I will also be doing my first Buicks only car show (Cream City Chapter) next month. I have found that this forum is the place to find and buy those rare and needed parts for your car.

Welcome again and this is the place to be for Buick info..............

The wheels you found on eBay are not the same as the ones pictured above.

Here are the 2 piece 17" wheels on eBay made by American Racing I think you are referring to:
