Hey, gals and guys. I'm pretty new to this. I just got my 1965 Buick Skylark delivery to me from Tx to Va. Any tips or ideas will help me and my son. I haven't seen the car in about 15 months due to time and have just the engine rebuild. My goal is to first open the hood. . . . . . I have never owned nor driven a car from this era. Please help a Marine out with any ideas, tips, and most importantly how the pop the hood... :beers2:

Hi Gunny - thanks for serving and keeping us at home safe from the bad guys :TU:

I've been on here since the beginning and in the Buick community for about 30 years now. You WILL NOT find a more helpful genuine no-BS group of car guys and gals than right here.

... first thing I would suggest is picking up a real-deal Buick Chasis Service Manual for your year. It is the Bible for your car

Should look something like this - 43000/44000 are the model designations for the special/skylark/GS's so you want that one.

Ebay is a good source - look for original or a good reprint

Good luck with your new ride :beer

If my memory is correct you'll see the hood release by the slots in the bumper . I believe you PULL down on the handle .

Maybe ,,

Oh yea Welcome and thanks for serving !

Welcome aboard!
Hood release is a lever that is on the rights side of the grille in the first opening. It is just to the right of the grille point. It moves to the right to release the hood.

thats good .. but nothing beats the paper one sitting on the fender while you're working on the car ..

.. or sitting in a lounge chair sipping your favorite beverage. When I first got my GS, I spent that whole summer's weekends up at a friends lake house sitting on the deck reading it from cover to cover

Thanks. for the help. This site is very useful. i bought a new spectra premium radiator a few days ago and wanted to install it. Cleaned the corrosion in the thermostat housing area even the little tube. I installed a new thermostat and I was really proud of myself. . . .Until I started trying to install the new radiator. . I'm assuming the thin lines connected at the bottom of the radiator are not long enough to fit the new radiator... does anyone know where such lines are located so that one could purchase them.. Thanks in advance
