Hi Guys New to your club, but I love it. I have A 79 Trans Am (I know, it a poncho) , that is my dream car. only problem is that it only has a p-301. I have a p-400 that is not bad but nothing special. These cars are great handlers with small blocks and I am a curve lover. Then I found out that the buick-455 sf moter that I have in my garage next to the p-400 is about the same weight as the p-301 in my car. Is there any history of buick big blocks going in to gen. 2 F-bodys that any one know? The motor looks mighty wide and would Skylark headers work or would they need to be custom? Is this possible without spending a fortune or should I stick with the poncho 400 and find a nice skylark to put the SF in? Thanks
Hi, Please post your name. Try contacting Mike Pesarchik at mnlbuick@excite.com He has an 87 Firebird with a BBB that runs mid 11's at 119 or so. Also Poston Enterprises markets headers that are supposed to fit 70-81 Firebird and Camaro. 1-800-635-9781 or 1-334-368-8577 They also sell the frame brackets for the swap.
Hi I'm I Ron of Whidbey, Builder of 747's Thanks, I will let you know What I find out and work on developing my profile. Ron
Welcome aboard Ron! There have been a few folks coming and going that have stuffed 455's in F bodies... One comes to mind in particular. I;ll try to find the link. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...rpage=40&highlight=camaro update&pagenumber=1
I'm not sure on this, but I believe both T/A and Poston sell motor mounts and header exhaust kits for BBB in second gen f-bodys. I had a BBB in a 85 T/A, an damn that was sweet
yea thanks, I found the Poston site, They are sweet(bit steep in price) but look like they will fill the ticket out quite well. If anyone ran into some problems trying to mount the engine in the bird, (with a 4-speed) Please let me in on any tricks that u discovered. Thanks all :TU:
Fits fine no problems. You will need frame pads. I just used A-body GS frame pads from TA. Cast iron pads are better for a swap since you can tack them into positon with a bare block mounted to your trans. Then mark and drill mounting holes. I did this in the late 80's in a 71' firebird. Car was a blast. F-body cars are so easy to make run fast with a nice BBB. Good choice, have fun.
