    Hello
I Am New Here To The Sight And To Building I Have A 1967 Buick LeSabre It Was Supposed To Have A 340cid But It Has A 350 cid That Was Put In By Someone Else Years Ago And It Runs Pretty Smooth But My Problem Here Is That I Have A Swith pitch TH400 But I Am Switching Over To A TH400 Non Switch Pitch And I Have Two Wires Connected To The Drivers Side Of The Tranny That Connect To A Little Button On The Back End Of The Control Arm Close To The Firewall But I Have No Detent Switch Doest It Need The Detent Switch? I Was Able To Drive The Car But It Didnt Have Reverse When I First Got It Running Then It Would Move (i.e.drive)Even When I Was In Park Reverse And Neutral And Now It Wont Move At All And Is Leaking Trans Fluid Down The T/C Which It Didnt When I First Goyt It Running

Damn, wow, sounds like you have some problems there...but as to the detent switch/cable, all that does is signal the trans to downshift when you floor it. I don't think (but also am not sure) that all those problems would be caused by that. I don't have the detent cable hooked up on my car (it's there, just broken) cos I haven't had time to put a new one in, and I have no problems.

You don't need the detent switch. Mine melted and started a fire years ago, and I never got around to replacing it. If I want to pass, I just pull the tranny into second gear.

I think the TH400 used the electric switch on the gas pedal to engage the detent. I'm not sure about the switch-pitch.

It does sound like you have a bad problem. Perhaps it won't go into gear because it leaked too much fluid. Give us more details on where it is leaking, and how you swapped the tranny.

when the problem was first discovered .......if you were to pull the pan off of the tranny .... you might find that there is broken or bent "S" hook that is supposed to control the valve that is slides in and out of the valve body selecting the different gears as you move the shifter.(i am talking from an experience on a 700R4 ...your experience might vary slightly)

now that it is puking fluid and not moving at all .... you probably trashed it over time by throttling it in park when it was messed up .....
very similar to severely throttling it in drive while holding your foot on the brake .... except instead of holding your foot on the brake (where at least your back tires might spin and give it some relief), the park pawl was ingaged not letting the tailshaft turn at all....
if you were to go to a tranny shop, some greasy dude with a bad haircut could probably show you what was happenin' ...

dont lose any sleep over it ...
stick another 400 in and have some more fun ...or maybe a 2004R and bump your gas milage up about 25-30 percent...

:3gears: :3gears: :3gears: Have The New 400 In And Is Working Fine For Now :Brow: I Will Be Putting In A ToggleSwitch To the Tranny For Passing And Not The Kickdown Switch
A Toggleswitch Is Easier :3gears: :3gears: :3gears: I Still Have Some Things To do Before It Is Road Ready
