well i am looking at a 71 gs 455 ragtop, original paint {not so great but no rust} all stock in good running condition. and saw that it does not have boxed rear lower control arms. being a gs newb i thought that the gs came stock with boxed lower control arms like 442, ss chevelle? thanks charlie,,,
Welcome Charlie from Washington State! Where are you located? Someone will chime in that knows the answer to your question soon, I have not heard of a Skylark with boxed control arms, thought you had to do it yourself. Buy the Ragtop!
thanks for the welcom guys! i am from illinois {northwest suburbs} here is my story. last year i found a 70 442 convert pace car and fell in love with it and now its in the middle of a frame off {will be done for spring}. well now my wife wants it for her own.................. soooooo its time for me to get a car. the ragtop i am looking at is a really nice car and its so hard to find any older muscle car that has not been hotrodded/hacked, beat to death/ painted a few times hiding disaster/ ect, ect, i am not looking to or can afford another frame off resto but just cruise and enjoy for now. car is triple white and really looks sharp. 442 will have stock rebuild on motor and i am a little worried the 71 gs 455 with lower comp wont be able to handle the 442 {3.42 posi/auto 455/365 hp 500ft/lbs} just cant have the wifey beating up on me:grin: charlie,,,
Hello everyone, my name is David and I have a 1971 Skylark. She runs good just needs some love lol. I do have a question though. I am getting a lot of exhaust fumes from the engine into the cab, so much so that I always have to drive with the windows down. Does anyone know what could be causing this to happen?
hey guys, car i was looking at is on ebay now. triple white 71 vert gs 455, sorry i do not know how to post link. i was thinking the cars value to be in the 18,000-20,000 range what do you guys think? anyway i tried working a deal on car about a week ago with dealer and they say bottom line is 27,000 +taxes. car stalled at bidding last time around 16,000 ish. this time around its up to 20,000 with a bidder with 0 stars {see bidding}.
The internal tests performed by the Buick factory of the Buick GS 455 against the Olds 442s with a 455 show that a staight GS455 runs about the same times as a w30 Olds. The stage 1 as you might expect beats both. These are published on this Board. http://home.comcast.net/~shinzan/1969 Buick GSX Presentation.pdf
Charlie, the F41 Rally Suspension with boxed rear lower control arms and rear sway bar was an option on all 68-72 Buick GS cars.
