Hello everybody, Here is a little introduction so you all get to know me. My name is Mike (or Michael whatever you prefer) and I live in the Midwest I own a 70 GS 455 (bought today :grin The GS 455 I own is in need of restoration, so I ask you oh so great people of the V8 Buick forum where does one find parts? So sorry this was so long and not so much about me but more the car. -Mike
Here is what data plate under hood says: ===================== ST70 44637FL1 118965BDY TR 189 50 F PNT 12A ===================== Thats all it says. -Mike
Look in the corner of the driver's side windshield for the VIN. For parts sources, it depends on the part. Start with www.buickpartsdirectory.com It is best to just ask here for the particular part.
Welcome aboard from NY. Easiest way to find some of your parts is to post in the Parts Wanted section. Lots of members have parts left over from a restoration, or cars they have dismantled.
Replacing the dash pad will not affect the VIN as that is riveted to the dash frame. Now if the entire dash was replaced to remove rust, that's another kettle of fish altogether. As an aside, I once checked out a 68 Skylark convert which had *two* VINS. One on the registration (aka title) and different one on the dash. Couldn't run away quickly enough
Welcome Mike! Here's your trim tag info: ST70-model year 4-Buick 46-GS 455 37-2 door hardtop FL1-Flint, Michigan plant 118965BDY-Fisher body number 189-Burnished Saddle Bucket Seats 50-Bamboo Cream Exterior F-Dark Brown Vinyl top 12A-Built 1st week of December, 1969
Yes there is. For the build date of your car, (3 weeks earlier than mine actually), you should be able to get a report on the car from the Sloan museum. They have info on the December and prior cars for the 70 model year. I don't have their contact info on hand, but if you search it in the search bar you should be able to find it. :TU:
I found the sloan museum thanks. Also I was looking at the vin the first day I looked at the car, it was hard to read so is there any tips and tricks to help make out the vin #. -Mike
I have another question, Do any of you know a engine rebuilder in Ohio that knows what they are doing? -Mike
Got the car home at last: After some work and cleaning out the trunk: Found lots of goodies in the trunk, also got Re-Chromed Front/Rear bumpers and fender and trunk lid with purchase. Sorry pics are blurry took pics on phone. -Mike
Seems pretty solid at a glance, especially for an Ohio car. Right side quarter replacement in order? Also, how is your roof being a vinyl top car and all?
that is an easy one, Gary Paine, "greatscat" here on V8buick, in Chardon OH. http://www.v8buick.com/member.php?244-greatscat
