I am the proud owner of a newly acquired 1974 Lesabre Luxus Convertible in very good condition. Before my purchase, the vehicle sat for a year or so, and now the ignition is frozen. I can get it to turn into Accessory, but that is it. I understand replacement is an option, but all the tips I have read stat the ignition must be in the run position to remove the lock cylinder ou: Any suggestions???
Have you tried any type of lubricating spray to loosen it up? I'm not sure what is acceptable, but I would think something like a graphite liquid or powder might do the trick to loosen it up. Or maybe PB Blaster?
By the way, I really like your car. There's a twin to it for sale here in Fargo. Needs a fair amount of work, but isn't in bad shape overall. I think he wanted about 3k for it. I would have made an offer if I had a place to put it...
Thanks David... I love it as well. I got mine from a family member for 1,500. A deal if I do say do. The only cosmetic thing it needs is a new top. - spring project. I will try the graphite, as WD-40 just made a mess.
Hi Adam, We would love to see some pictures of your car if you have them! How do you like the scissor tops? Interesting, to say the least. I replaced my top last spring, and it cost me over $2000, but that included a new frame from a parts car. There are a couple folks on the board who own 74 verts...a few Luxus cars too.:TU:
I am still learning alot about the car. This is my first Buick, and from what I understand, there were only a little over 3600 of the Luxux Convertibles made. I will get a picture posted as soon as I can.
I hope this doesn't sound too stupid but... did you make sure the steering wheel lock isn't putting pressure on the ignition switch??? It's pretty easy to overlook.
I tried moving the wheel in both positions with no luck. I would guess that it may be compounding the problem. I'm sure I will get it... I just hope it is soon. I really want to start cleaning / working on it, but I need to get it started first.
Welcome, Adam. Sometimes a worn key will cause this problem. Try another key if you have one. Good luck!:3gears:
I could be wrong..o No: but I do believe that to remove the lock cyl properly, it MUST be in ACC position.
