Just joined last week and it seems like there is a lot of wisdom in this group. I am the proud owner of a 63 Riviera that is all original except for one repaint. It is a beautiful car and everywhere I go, people stop me and ask what kind of car it is, or tell me what an awesome car it is. It's white with red leather deluxe interior, 401 engine, 17 inch Torque Thrust II wheels. My question is, I either want to rebuild the engine and swap in a turbo 400 Buick trans. or try to find a 425 engine and trans combo to put in. I like the dual quad setup, and I also want to get rid of the Dynaflow trans. that I have now. Does anyone know of a way to ship an engine and trans. from Tampa, Fla. area to Las Cruces, N.M. area that is affordable and safe? I have been talking to someone in Fla. that has a 425 with 2 4's and the switch pitch trans. for sale, and I'd like to get it if it's worth it. He claims the engine was rebuilt 17 years ago, along with the trans., and has never been fired up until about 2 weeks ago. It is sitting in a 36 Ford project that never got finished. Does anyone know if there would be any problems with a motor and trans. sitting for 17 years and not being started? I could sure use some help with this. Thanks.
parts That is the way to go. The best way to get the eng and trans to You is to find a GOOD friend with a pick up, take a long weekend and go pick it up. That way You can look before you put down the cash, You handle the goods carefully on the way back and it would be a fun trip. The 425 with a turbo will be a 66 yr. model because that is the only yr. the bell housing would fit a nail head. The trans will be a switch pitch.[highly desireable] and the intake will probably for a qjet carb. good luck.
