Howdy all, My name is [slomo] Joe, And I just bought a 1967 skylark 2dr. today 11/18/04 with a v8 4bbl and auto trans. I have no idea of the eng size. The basic rust bucket.
Howdy doody there buddie. Nice to see a new comer as always. I am sure you will be able to look at the top of your core support and see a sticker on it, and it should tell you towards the top how many cubes your motor is.
Welcome Joe ! Joe , Your gonna learn alot here . Also your gonna have a good time . A core support is the black framework that the fenders hang on , and the bumper and grille mount to , also the radiator . p :3gears: :TU:
Engine ID Howdy guys, absolutely no stickers on the core support. The vin ID# says it had a V6 but it's a V8 4bbl cast iron manifold not a spread bore. the spark plugs are the big ones 13/16 not 5/8 peanut size. Any hint on finding the year?
Originally it wasa 225 cid v6. If they kept it the same year v8 there were a lot of choices: 300, 340, 400 and 430 ( from a boat Buick). If you get some numbers off the block or post a pic so we can see the valve covers it would help the ID.
Thanks Jim, Where on the block are the numbers? Are they stamped or cast, large, small? I have no idea at all. I will work on pictures but I'm not very computer worthy. I like the idea of keeping the car all buick the more time I spend here the more I learn. Thanks Joe
The problem is the location may vary with the engine size and its year. Most likely places are: Near the front left cylinder bank; and On the cylinder block deck left side between the spark plugs and the drivers exhaust manifold. They are stamped in these locations. If it happened to be a 455 and I think a 400 or a 430 it is cast also just behind the intake on the block in big letters facing up. You may need a mirror to see them. I do not know whether the 350 also used a cast number in this location . I am sure some of the 350 guys will chime in on this.
Thanks, I will look saturday in the day light. I have 2 pics but I need my son to get them in te computer. The air cleaner has no numbers.
howdy guys, I got a glimpse of the heads today and found a plug screwed in just above the exhaust manifold 4 on each side so I am only to assume it had a smog/air pump. What year did buick use air pumps? Thanks Joe
Howdy, I was able to start the car yesterday and it would not stay running on idle. It smoked a little no knocks and sucked down a quart of gas in 10/11 minutes. The carb has the name on the fire wall side Carter AFB. It has a heat activated choke but it is not hooked up the manifold under it has no holes to get the heat to the choke. where do I hook the choke to? Also it has a electric fuel pump that works intermittently the fuel pump on the engine was disconnected I don't why but it might have to do with 13 or so quarts of oil in the engine. Bad diaphragm possibly? I don't even know if the fuel pump ever worked mabe the wrong year or make I cant find engine numbers to figure out the year.
