Hi! After a very long time without a toy, I had the opportunity to buy my late cousin's 66 Skylark with a 455 last year. I've had a lot of toys, but this is my first Buick and big block. Looking forward to learning from you all.
Welcome aboard from NY. Check out the Northeast GS/GN club. It's in your back yard and is a great group of Buick lovers.
Welcome! Ironically I ran into a guy in FL this week w/a very similar looking '66 (same colors & similar if not same wheels). So much so I thought at 1st it was the same car (I'd even told him about this site) exc. he said it was a 300 4BBL.
Looks like the late Peter Maple's Buick. Peter was the parts manager at Michim Buick in CT forever. The engine in the 66 is very stout Scotty PG motor & ran real strong. Good luck with your new ride
Thanks for the welcome all. I will look into that club gsfred, thank you! It is Peter's Skylark! The 455 is definitely stout and it is amazing fun to drive. Peter stored the car at my Grandmother's in Stamford, CT during the winter for years and I'd keep an eye on it. After Peter passed my Grandmother sold the house in Stamford and I thought I'd seen it for the last time when I drove it to his house in NY for his wife in 2020. Fast forward a few years and the car was for sale and I was in a better position to work out a purchase with the family. I miss hearing my cousin's stories about my grandfather's drag racing days (google bee line willys) and love that it was his car. The pinstriping was done by John Kurtzman of Norwalk, who I used to watch letter my grandfather's mini-sprints every year through the 90s. I've changed the wheels, but the Craigers Peter had on it will be getting some slicks for the track this year.
I gave Pete the lead originally on this car from someone I knew was selling it way back when. It originally had a 300 in it. Pete bought it for $200.00 if I remember correctly. Has come a LONG WAY since that day!!!! Tom T.
Thanks for posting! It certainly has come a long way, I saw some pictures of when he first got the car. It looked like a $200 car lol. I'm leaving some things like the statline car club stickers hoping to run into some people that knew him at some point, I didn't expect to find more than one on here right away.
