Hello, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I'm James from Phoenix. I guess I'm not really a Buick guy yet, since I haven't bought one yet, but I found a 66 Riviera. It has been sitting in a dirt lot for 10 years and needs COMPLETE restoration. Right now I am just trying to get some information so I will know if I am making a wise decision on the purchase of this car. Any help, information, or guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks, James
The 66 is a neat car. Along with the 67 my favorite RIV. However I wonder if you have ever bitten off a resto? If not you need to do a lot of investigating before you take it on. Taking some cues from Riv pros here and other sites regarding what to look for is a key first step.
welcome James Wow, a '66 from dry Arizona. Out here in Buffalo, I would give my right arm for something like that. But then of course, I wouldn't be able to work on it with only one arm. You picked a good car. My first Riv was a '66, now I have a '67 with a '66 motor 'cuz that's all I had to work with. I've owned this car since '76. Anything you need feel free to ask me, I'll help you if I can. Just E mail me if you can't find me on here. Good luck, James! :beer
This is my first complete resto project. so i'm sure i will be needing lots of help...anything you guys know will help me out.
What kind of shape is the car in? Definitely get the car if the price is right. Plenty of Riv parts here in the Valley of the Sun.
It needs to be redone, the body is in good shape, as for the motor, i have no idea yet...i am going to look at it again later this week
66 RIV Hi, I am pretty new to this site as well, but welcome anyway. These guys are great on here and will help you out. My family and myself have owned several Rivs. The 66 is my personal favorite. It had the sleekest body to ever exit Detroit in the day and the Nailhead motor is a blast. You probably don't have the rust that accompanies cars where I live back East, but when you said sitting in the dirt that caught my attention. When I hear that here, the floor pans and trunk pan is a prone place for rust. Also, if it was uncovered, check the floor pans good under the carpet. Those windows leak after years and the carpet traps moisture rotting the floors. The spare tire holder also holds water if it has the drains in it still. If you get it, take your time and enjoy the resto. Good luck!!!
welcome to the site guys and to james go for the rivi and enjoy building it im also in the middle of my first restoration too its fun though and im enjoying it i cant wait to get it done though so i can go to where the ricers meet and see the looks on their faces. well anyway see you on the boards and good luck
