Congratulations Spence...GOOD FOR YOU; you beat the "Catalog Odds" of using due diligence to correct the problem at large. Seems so weird that a year can make all the difference whether the experts care to admit it or not!

The vacuum cap on the one tube is A-O-K unless the judges get under there with a light and mirror and discover your "pas de faux" by trying to get something past them! Did you manage to correct the filler neck line up or is this another new tank?

Now however, the jig is up! We now know you got posting pics figured out (and how much a picture shows/means!) so post away!! Take lotsa pics. Everyone like to ad the visuals to what's going on and that also means keeping the interest/participation level high!

Once again, fine job! Now get those tail lights figgered out LOL! ws

Being in this hobby, I cant tell you how many times Ive ordered parts from Chevelle vendors, GTO vendors, 442 parts places etc. I don't care what the listing says, or what GTO or Chevelle they think it only fits. If I went by what the vendors told me, I would of never been able to get the parts necessary to fix my cars. So I take that stuff with a grain of salt.

As long as the part is identical, then it will fit regardless of what year or make they tell me it will. But ultimately, it has to be the same exact part. If there is a difference in the new part from the old part, you have to question it. Maybe it will still fit, maybe it wont. So when I told you that there isn't a difference, I assumed that you compared the two and they were the same.

Tank: The replacement tank I presently have from Year One (part #AR89) is bittersweet.

Yes, it fits perfectly, with no massaging needed. But, it's clearly not as sturdy/sexy looking as the funky fitting Rock Auto Spectre tank (Rock Auto part # GM34H) I previously tried. The Year One tank has obviously been 'painted' silver, and the finish kinda rubs off on your hand when exposed to gasoline, solvents, etc.

Furthermore, Year One wanted ~$160 to ship their $99 tank. I had to call them direct and they reduced the shipping to ~$78. I think Rock Auto's Spectre tank was ~$139, shipped. If I knew a correct fitting Spectre tank was available, I would throw the Year One tank in the trash tomorrow.

Coincidentally, the Year One tank arrived in a box (presumably from a third party vendor) stamped part # 'CGM34H'.

Tail light Lenses/Housings: Just ordered both L & R side '71 Repop lenses from Year One. Can anyone comment on their quality? Also bought gaskets from CARS Inc. However, these seem like little more than foam cutouts, that may quickly disintegrate. I can't help but think that the old, funky, rubber gaskets may be a better candidate.

Can some one please instruct me how to replace the housings?

    Thanks

I agree. I've actually considered joining the Team Chevelle Forum (as our cars are so similar) just to have another resource.

In retrospect, I should have paid closer attention to the pics of both '68-'70 & '71-'72 senders on Year Ones website when ordering. They clearly show the different orientations of each respective float.

    '68-'70: https://www.yearone.com/Product/1964-72-skylark-gs/2112nr

    '71-'71: https://www.yearone.com/Product/1964-72-skylark-gs/2114nr

Jason, I ordered the correct single tube sender, as shown in your link. I've removed this tank so many time in the past two weeks, what's once more.

    Thanks

Apples and oranges... OK, mines a 72 and to get the tail lamp housings off, the bumper needs to come off or get swung down on two bolts. Its a poor engineering afterthought. That's probably why you have a busted tab on yours. After seeing mine with the lenses off, the background was almost black. I masked them of and painted them with chrome aluminum spray paint. I was able to retrieve the wiring harness and with a spare harness that came with the extra parts I got I was able to splice in a few new sockets, absolutely 100% good grounds and the darn gaskets on the bayonet plugs. Without those they will be loose and leak causing failures. Use dielectric grease on the bulb sockets as well. Don't forget to R&R the side marker lights and the license plate light while youre in there!

As an enthusiast that's owned 10 of these cars since 1971 when I got my license I have a comment to make; please take this with a grain of salt. It really seems that from all your posts you are really gung-ho about this car. That's fantastic but it can overwhelm you. The problem I see is that youre jumping around from one good sized undertaking to the next. That happens a lot and then they sit. Parts get lost, wife rags about space etc etc. Then the car gets sold. Sit your ass down and figure what exactly you want to accomplish with this vehicle. Then make a list of issues that need to be addressed. Stick to one job through completion (with the waiting for parts exception). Winter is almost here and then you can allow yourself time to do stuff at your leisure.

As I mentioned earlier, take lotsa pics. Its always good to put a face or even a car to a post so the mainliners can see what your deal is. I carry a Canon 16mpx "Elph" in my back pocket. Theres lotsa time I reach for a pic cuz I cant get my big ol' fat head in the 6-1/8 hat size hole. :eek2: Also, you really do need a service manual. ws
