I just finished removing my old, greasy, cut up, spliced, shorted and patched engine wiring harness and installing my new engine wiring harness from American Autowire (they are in Bellmawr, NJ). The American Autowire harness is a good quality product that went in with a minimum of difficulty. I did have to modify the alternator and voltage regulator connectors as my car had been converted to an internally regulated alternator. I also had to pay attention to the wire for my in dash tachometer as that is not part of the original wiring harness.
All of the wire color codes and connectors were correct for my car. I was able to use an old factory wiring diagram and everything was just as it should be regarding the color codes. Best of all, when the installation was complete and I did the smoke test it all stayed inside the wires - Hooray!

Rock Auto has the best price I could find on the harness, $125.00, plus I used one of their discount codes for an extra 10% off. With shipping it was something like $136.00.

Thanks for the info. I need a new engine harness for the 71 GS, it's pretty crispy. I didn't find any electrical harnesses listed at Rock Auto though.:Do No: I did find them on the American Autowire website for $167 which is still a good deal. Is this just a repackaged M&H harness? M&H also charges $167.

    Eric,

Rockauto's website is very slow to load. I tried looking up the harness for a '71 GS and could not find it but I looked under "skylark custom" and found it. Here are the steps I took.
Go to their website and wait for it to load. Click on "start" - wait again. Click on "Buick", click on "1971", click on "Skylark Custom", then "electrical" then "engine harness" you should see 4 or 5 different harnesses ranging from an L-6 (6 cylinder) all the way up to the 455's. The harness number for my 350 with auto trans and A/C was American Autowire 33015.
I hope that helps! If this fails, simply call them.

And don't forget the 5% discount code 355AFC435302, put it in the "How did you hear about us" box, it expires 9/27/11.

Did it come with a diagram?

No. I have a factory diagram but it wasn't really needed. All of the wires are the right color code and length so they almost install themselves. The only question I had was for the pink wire which turned out to be a tranny wire that is no longer used on my car.

Wish there was a reference diagram on a sticky..could have used it a few times this week.

I have used their harnesses with great success. I believe they sell the same ones as M+H as they have the same part numbers also. I had no idea Rock Auto sold them for that kind of savings. Thanks for that info. You really do not need a diagram to install these. Just start at the fuse box and work from there. All the plug ins line up with the components they plug into. You should have an assembly or a Service manual anyway. All this stuff is in there.

    Thanks Lee,
This was a HUGE savings :dollar: I got the engine harness and tach wire. They are beautiful parts.
