Anything 26 years and older is not required to have emissions testing to have the license renewed anymore!!!!:beer :beer :beer :beer :beer :beer

I've been waiting for this for a while:bglasses: No more paying waivers or "tuning" to get the car to pass the sniffer test anymore. Jeez, what will I do with all the free time I have now!?? Maybe I'll go update the directory...I haven't done that in a while, and I have a PILE of stuff to add.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET. I keep hoping the whole country will go to "rolling" exemptions like that. It just makes sense. The classic car community is such a miniscule percentage of the population that we don't need penalties. Heck, we are historians!!!

Already happened here in IL but only with the Antique plates. Regular plates still have to go for testing.

The antique plate thing is also here, but I don't have antique plate on my car. So as far as I was concerned, I was getting screwed. Now I don't have to worry!!

    Sniff! What's that smell?

We HAD emissions testing here in the Twin Cities for cars '76 and newer until several years ago. It was ended after it was determined it served no purpose other than to inconvenience people and make them 8 bucks poorer. :moonu:
Boy, the cars I had pass that never should have! :Brow:

New cars run so clean today, that just through attrition of the older vehicles the air quality improves.
I hope all your local Governments come to their senses also.

What do you mean "ALREADY", in IL?:puzzled:

I've lived in IL my whole life, and have NEVER had to have a vehicle emission tested!:Smarty: :puzzled:

The only vehicles I ever heard of being tested was TRUCKS (in IL), and they don't even do THAT anymore, that I know of. :Do No:

Did they raise your renewal fees, Adam? That might explain why the emission test is "not necessary", anymore, if your State can MAKE MORE MONEY just by INCLUDING it into the renewal fee. Not saying that it "HAS" happened, just saying that it "CAN" happen.:Smarty:

I don't think they raised renewal fees....and I don't care too much if they did. As long as I'm not getting the sniffer test anymore:beer

    Emission testing

Hi Scott, Don't know where you reside in Il., But ,I live in the Chicago area ,5 minutes from the city. I've had 4 vechicles tested in the last 9 months. BTW, they also test trucks every 6 months. I drove a truck for over 30 years. JOE:cool:

I'm just west of Chicago, but I've never had to get my vehicles tested. It doesn't exist here.:Do No:

Do YOU have to PAY for the testing?:Do No:
How much does it cost for each vehicle to be tested (I have 4 Pickups, and 5 "Musclecars")? I'd think if THEY (the State) want you to test it, THEY (the State) should PAY for it!

I hope, for all of your sake, that Emission testing STOPS, everywhere, as it's not necessary.

Compared to all the Cigarette Smoke that pollutes the buildings (and EVERYTHING it's exposed to, clothes, furniture, walls, carpet, etc.), the vehicle pollution OUTSIDE is NOTHING to affect your health! The Government won't ban CIGARETTES, though, will they?:af: :moonu: :blast: I have NEVER smoked, and I'll NEVER have to BUY Cigarettes, all you have to do, if you WANT to start is go to a BAR and BREATHE IN! :af: :moonu:

    Emission testing  Whatever

    Testing

Hi Scott, I believe that the only areas in IL. that have testing are Chicago & St, Louis. Something about being a "high pollutant" area. No, don't have to pay for test. Every 2 years. You can get an exemption for "race & show' cars. I have that for my 70 GS & 69 CAMARO. needs to be renewed every 2 years. Just need a declaration from car insurance company & a form letter. JOE::
   BTW, I live in WORTH, IL.

    Hey Joe,
Thanks for "educating" me about testing. I learned about it in Automotive School, and I know how to test vehicles, but I've never had to have MY personal vehicles done.

Pollution will always be an "issue", unfortunately, but I think the Government should focus on the REAL issues, instead of just trying to "smooth things over" to make it look like they're actually DOING something (such as Emission testing OLD cars, instead of just testing "neglected" cars/trucks, in General!)

As long as cars are "maintained" and taken care of, they shouldn't have "pollution problems", anyway.

If that's an "invitation", to where you live, I may have to visit!:bglasses:

I'll be that direction in the next couple of weeks, so I may be in touch, time permitting.:TU:
