This'll be cool, finally a single 4bbl aluminum. Think they'll make it in the spread/single like most of the performer intakes? Would be kinda hard though since there are 3 patterns of carbs used on Nailheads.

To come to Edelbrock's defense, when I was on PT06, there were 3 of us I saw with nailheads, in 2007 there were 2 of us and I was the only Long Hauler. There just isn't the demand and we don't have a champion on the inside. I mean if Edelbrock was going to do anything more Buick it would probably be the Turbo6 guys since GM only made more SBC's than Buick V6's. I did get some Nailhead publicity by when the GMPP guy stumbled for a bellybutton combo to give away a flashlight to I started yelling Nailhead at him and he bit, so I got the flashlight.

I garontee that cutting out the partition between the front and rear barrels on a stock intake will give more than 2 hp......:Smarty: :Smarty:

i would def be interested in the hood, how much and where are you located,
i dont want to cut up the gs hood that i have to put a 4inch steel cowl.

I did the same at PRI as far as asking the feesibility of it. Here's the problem guys. We all want goodies. No one has the $$ to lay down to get the process started and unless the aftermarket foresees a guaranteed return, they wont do it. Neither would you!
The other problem with the older stuff at Edelbrock is the new manufacturing techniques. All the old core boxes dont fit todays modern equipment processing. I had heard Edel. Sold/destroyed the original B262 core box and it sounds like that is truth. My contact says that even if they did still have it, making the intake with the older technology would put the manufacturing to a stand still until it was done.
That isn't to say that with all the gaining popularity of the Nail, it wont happen. Who would have even thought that 50 years later, we would be playing around with NEW ALUMINUM 409 Chevy heads!
Give it time. It will all work out. And if it doesn't, the 409 situation will happen again! (An independant man in the mid west started making his own alum 409 heads. Next thing you know, he's done making them and edel. is showing some off!)

Wonder if us nailheaders could get together and chip in enough money to get some manifolds made ??????

The yahoo group tried to make their own manifolds years ago, before EELCO started making their Edel 2x4 clone.....couldn't raise enough interest, yet alone cash to do it. I'll have to hunt down those posts.

Erik.....is the new manifold a dual plane like the present EELCO 2x4, or is it a new single plane design?

Found it. This project was for a repo of the Edel 2x4. From the Yahoo Nailhead board, Jan 2004 :

    >>>Quote:

....$11,250 will get you 25 manifolds ($450 each)ready to mount on an engine. Machined everything.....
....When all the dialog was going on before the details of the
project were complete, there were 20 people who emailed this group or emailed me directly that said they would spend up to $500 for a manifold. I received one check, three emails on what I was doing wrong, and one laughing email. I talked to two different places about marketing the manifold and committing to a larger run (50 manifolds would be about $270 each cost). No interest.

    >>>End Quote.

This guy had it all set up to go at a small foundry, but no one would commit.:Do No:

It's a good thing Marty stepped in to make these manifolds, as there seem to be few others that will take the $$ risk.

east ky i could greyhound it if needed it has 2 holes drilled where it has had pins and has a little filler right at the nose but it is goodshape id reuse but like you i have a gs hood. y the cowl?it would look better with the gs hood.

Doc, has the adapter plate been explored to see if an existing Edelbrock intake could be "adapted" to fit the nailhead? I know Kenne-bell had plates so a MOPAR intake would fit the 455. They still said the Edelbrock B4BJ was the best. However for the nailhead a nice edelbrock RPM air-gap would likely do wonders. That would be the cheapest way to do it IF there is as manifold close enough so that the adapters were not a restriction.
No idea why a single plane would be used on a nailhead. 3500+rpm is not the answer. 1500-5500 would be great! Tony

Unlikely, the Nailhead has a completely flat manifold face. About the only other engine I can think of that has that is the new Metric Hemi.

Actually , one could fab a intake from alluminum sheet stock for a nailhead real easy and in the process make tops for it that would take all manner of carbs..... if I had a tig machine , I would do it just to see what I could come up with.... that would be fairly easy to do .... But a cast alluminum one would look much nicer and traditional.....

no need to tig aluminum.. just oxy-fuel weld it... produces better welds anyway

I'm going to be making a steel tunnel ram once the Turbo6 install is done and I'm saving money for wheels, tires, and a new rear axle.

    check out the link doc...

you'll need the flux, and preferably (to save your eyes) the goggles too

and a WHOLE lot of patience, practice, experimentation with gas mixes, torch temps, and technique.

Any of the above being off by a small amount can result in brittle welds, cold welds, porous welds, weld through, contaminated welds. MUCH more so than welding steel or other less sensitive alloys.

TIG'ing aluminum without those problems takes skills... let alone torch welding it.

I like to think of myself as a decent welder for a backyard kinda fabricator. I will definitely say equipment has a lot to do with how good you are. Then practicing with that equipment. Going from my Lincoln weld pack 140 (it's a 100 with a tank setup)to a Miller matic 252 is like night and day. But what a pleasure a good mig welder is! Only problem is my weldpak cost me $300ish the 252 is $2500+.
As for TIG - have a rich uncle they are crazy expensive and just like a violinist you need to Practice Big time!

    Guys,
Has anyone looked into a plastic intake manifold for the Nailhead? They are used OE, although not with a carb. Just wonder if it is a possibility!
