Looking for a nice aluminum jack to put on my Christmas list. My last cheapie started to leak in multiple places a few weeks ago (it was only $25 and lasted 1 yr.). Sears has a cool 4000 lb aluminim one for $199.99. I've noticed Sears is re-labeling some of their stuff and marking it up, this may be one of those cases :Do No:

    Suggestions?

A good creeper suggestion would also be appreciated.

Ditto, I need a new jack, too. Harbor Freight Chinese made Orange unit lasted a few years but now I want quality.

Will Craftsman tools now be Kraftsman (K-Mart). :eek2:

    One option is here. http://www.autobarn.net/1tonaltrja.html

I like the Sears one better but it's quite a bit more. I like the low profile 5". My current one is 6" and barely fits under the K-member, adding a block of wood to prevent scraping is not an option. Some of the new ones have rubber inserts  .

The saddle on that one in the link looks to be REALLY small!!! I wouldn't like that!!

I would bet unless you pay $400 or more for a jack, you'll get one made in China.

There is SO much private labeling going on in the world now that sometimes it is better to pay less for less, than to pay more for less!!! :Do No:

I think Sears jacks have gone way down in quality over the years. I have a 25 year old 2 ton Blackhawk jack that works like the day it was made. It is probably the best jack I have ever had. I believe Lincoln makes a good quality jack as well. Good quality tools last a lifetime. Why buy something for 200 that youll end up replacing in a few years? Believe me, youll thank yourself later. Just my .02. Im a tool junkie
