    Hello,

Well I had a good day at the track today. I've owned my 70 Skylark for a month now, and it had run a previous best of 13.61 @ 97. Just last week I took off the Quadrajet, and installed a new 950 Holley. The traction wouldn't let me get against the converter very much, I had to roll the throttle on to get it to hook up with the 275-60 Drag Radials. Here are the results from the best pass of the night...

    60' 1.844 (spun a little)
    330 5.264
    1/8 8.153
    MPH 84.49
    1000 10.686
    1/4 12.844
    MPH 104.15

I am very satisfied with what the car ran. I know there is more in it. I will get a nice 3" exhaust system with X-pipe, and some ET-Streets over the winter. I'm only .8 from my goal of 12.0's.

The 950 carb out of the box with nothing but idle mixture and idle speed adjustments was worth 8 tenths! I did also have to install a 1" spacer to get a vaccum port for my PCV valve so that probably helped too.

    Q-jet restriction

WOW.I keep hearing how OUR Buicks like the dino sauce.
I,ve been shopping for a carb in the 850cfm range, might have to rethink the cfm,s again.I like the EDELBROCK 850 Q-jet for the stock look but if a 850 chokes the motor that much I will have to step up to the 950 Holley.

Hi Del. Glad to hear you are on the right track. But, I think if you had bought a 950 Holley from Jet you'd have lopped more than 8/10ths off the time. I love Holleys, but I am less than impressed with their quality control and the shortcuts they take. I'll bet if you sent it to Jet they'd drop you at least another 2/10ths for less than $200.

Go here: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jholthenrichs/hard way.htm and scroll down to see the differences between a stock Holley 750 and a Jet 850. The 850 looked exactly like the 750 does when I sent it to them. Look at it now. The performance is astounding.

    Todd,

Thanks for asking. Here's the specs as I know them (most of the info came from the previous owner, and going through the recepts)

    Engine (455 of course):
    TA Performance
310 Cam, Roller Rockers, SP1 intake, valve covers, 9.5:1 Cast pistons, Oil Pan, Oil Pump mods
    MSD Distributor, 6AL, Blaster coil
    Holley 950
Hooker Super Competition Headers, 2.5" H-Pipe system with Flowmasters and 2-1/4 tailpipes (this system is the next thing to replace)
    Iron heads were "pocket ported"
    Trans:
TH400 with a shift kit. TCI 2500 stall converter
    Rearend:
Chevelle 12 Bolt with 3:42 Gears, Hotchkiss control arms

I expect to get more out of this combo, I have really enjoyed this car so far, I will be out there racing it as soon as the tracks open next year.

BTW, I just got my first BPG newsletter/packet tonight. Very impressed with what they've put together. I recognize a lot of names from this board. Just another reason I'm glad I bought a Buick!
