Hello, all. New here! Great Forums. I'm sending in my GSCA membership app tomorrow and also a membership to the Michigan chapter.

I just purchased a 70 GS Convertible - have the title in hand, just waiting for delivery from PA. I contracted with Intercity transport to pickup the car - with the availability date of May 28. Their email contract said that normal scheduling would put pickup within 10-14 days of first availability. That would have been last Friday.

I emailed them, and was told that I was on the list, but no exact pickup date had been scheduled. Is this normal? Seems like they should be able to tell me "next week", or "within 2 weeks" or such. Anyone have experience with them? The seller and the company that I had inspect the car both recommended them.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to 'meeting' all of you, as I will be full of questions! My Buick fascination started in high school - my 1st car was a '69 Riviera 430. But I always had a hankering for a '70 GS Convertible. FINALLY - got my hands on one, but can't get it here!!:ball:

    Thanks,
    Annie Oakley

    Thanks...and a ???

    Thanks, Rob.

I guess I am just gnawing at the proverbial bit. Every day, as I drive my very respectable, but boring, '01 Regal around, I keep thinking that my summer of convertible fun is slipping away...

Especially here in Michigan, where the summer weather could be over with any minute...

Probably the wrong area to ask this, but I'll try it anyway...

What manuals do I need and where do I buy them? Service, chassis, owner's, etc. Which ones should I get the originals and what ones are just for reference? Where to find them? I see lots of odd manuals on eBay...but not sure if they're even helpful.

    Thanks,
    Annie Oakley

    Annie,

Is that your new car in your avatar? Is it red with a white bucket seat interior? Did you buy it off ebay? If so, I remember seeing it on there, SWEET CAR!!!

Post some pics of it when you get it!

If it isn't that car, I am sure it is sweet too.

Tell us about your new car and welcome aboard!

    Chris,

Yes, that's my car! I went out on a limb and bought it off eBay. I did have the car inspected, though, because I couldn't get out and see it.

I >think< I got it for a decent (but possibly a bit high price. BUT - I had a home equity loan burning a hole in my pocket....hehe. I just couldn't resist! I was able to insure it for just over what I paid, so safe there - the inspector also thought it was a good investment car, so I feel safe with the purchase on a money level.

It is a '70 GS 455 Convertible, numbers matching, no engine modifications. According to the inspection - it has all the original sheet metal and interior in awesome condition. The car was repainted about 10 or 11 years ago, supposedly with the original Red code paint and was wet sanded. Inspector says the paint job is excellent, though it may be too shiny compared to what would be expected from the factory, and that the color is more orange than it should be.

The car has been in a collector's home for about 10 years. The guy who sold it on eBay had just bought it from him. It had just been sitting (garaged) and the tires had to be replaced because they had flat spots, A/C was recharged and blows cold. Inspector did a ride along and mechanically everything works and seems sound, but they did not get it on a rack for a detailed checkup.

There were a couple little things that I will have to change/repair to get back to original. Someone cut into the glovebox door to install a newer radio, and cut into the rear armrests to install speakers. Looks like the steering wheel has been replaced and I'm not sure if it 'correct'. Mats are missing, one of the switches is worn but working. So lots of little things to work on and learn about!

I will have it into a shop here once it arrives for the mechanical once-over. I'm assuming I should have all the fluids drained and replaced, brake system fully inspected, alignment checked. Any suggestions as to what to have done are appreciated.

Sorry if I rambled! I will certainly answer any questions, I'm sure I missed lots of stuff. Where/how is the best place to post pics here? I have all the photos from the eBay auction. It was item #2478600594 - I think you can still see the photos there.

    Thanks!
    Ann

May not be much help, but I used them to ship a car purchased out of Connecticut. In my case they were head and shoulders above a couple of others I had used before. Even if they get a bit behind schedule, I'll bet you will be very satisfied with the end result. You may want to call and talk to them...I 'felt better' after a personal discussion. BTW, I hope you're happy now...you made me green with envy.......good luck and welcome to the board!

Thanks, Mickey. Like I said, I had two separate recommendations for using them - so it's just the waiting that's killing me. I'm used to shipping horses across the country (ie - money sucking hobby Number 2), but never an auto.

Of course, I couldn't do snything with the car anyway, SINCE IT WON'T FREAKIN STOP RAINING IN MICHIGAN!!!.

Sorry for yelling, but it's terrible here. Been raining daily for at least a week. Today it started about 2 hours ago, coming down in sheets, and hasn't quit yet.

Good thing there is alot of reading material here to keep me busy!

Nice ride! If it's worth anything, that sure looks like Fire Red (code 75 if I recall) to me...

Hey everyone - thanks for the compliments. I did get the car a few weeks ago. Intercity delivered it on a Monday morning and they did an awesome job transporting it.

I emailed Roberta from this forum and she put me in touch with Dave H from my area to take a look at the car. Dave came out and spent hours going over the car. I learned SO much. A big thanks to Roberta and Dave for their help - what a great community of people.

The paint is supposed to be Fire Red, but in person it is a bit more orangey than it should be. The hood and one front fender have been replaced at some time with the wrong year parts (but you can only tell by looking under the hood). Engine and VIN #'s match, but the tranny has been replaced with what Dave thought was a '77 Olds tranny. Runs great though. Many little things to fix, replace, etc to make it 'correct'.

I've had it to 2 car cruises - fun to drive, fun to drive, fun to drive.

    I absolutely adore this car!!!
