I recently rebuilt the original 430 from my project 67 riviera. It had not run since 1972, not surprisingly it was stuck, but not bad, and was quite clean inside!!!!!! Anyway i used the TA C-110 cam, and wanted to inquire about the ignition timing used with this cam, i think stock was TDC? which is where it is now. I figured a slight advance would help out but i dont know how much.

Also if anybody out there has a ballpark estimate on howmuch power this motor might make? Everything is stock but the following:

    TA C-110 cam
3inch mandrel bent exaust w/ dynomax super turbos

    HEI distributor
    K&N Xtreme Flow filter setup

Im hoping it makes in the area of 400, since stock was 360 and most likely underrated.

    Thanks,
    Marcus

Start with 12* initial, 32* total in by 2500 RPM. Then if you want to run vacuum advance, get an adjustable vacuum cannister, and add another 8-10*. All of this has beeen covered so many times on this BB. Go to the search function, and input "ignition timing". Then get a sandwich, you'll be reading for hours, LOL

Sorry, but I think 360 was OVERRATED. That was achieved with no accessories, drive belts or anything. And with really high octane fuel. You'll be right around 370 HP I guess. Headers and a ported intake will surely help. And a "worked" carb. TA's shorties are a sweet set of headers and the fit is awesome.

And Larry is right on about the ignition. 10 - 12* initial, 34* total mechanical, all in by 2500 RPM.

Thanks guys ill try the new timing settings when she gets back from the paint shop and then get some pics and post em.

Oh yeah by the way, what would you think subbing in a 455 .030 over short block with 10:1 pistons would net? I would be using the current cam, and top end from the 430. I figure i could build a solid short block for what, say a grand?

    Yardley,
I did look at TA's shorties and the SP-1 intake but opted to spend on the 3 inch exhaust currently because the intake and headers can be added later and I sort of am going for the bone stock "sleeper" look.

Who knows maybe someday a set of TA's aluminum stage 1 heads will find their way under the lid, along with the intake and headers. And while im at it maybe a roller cam and rocker conversion....a stroker kit......oh **** now i got myself all excited.

Anyway at my current income rate the petroleum supply needed to run the thing will probably be depleted by the time i get the money :Do No: :Dou:

It's ALL in the heads. Even small valve heads will put out the numbers if ported.

That is what's holding you back.
