Just tried to log-in at C&D's forums. I registered there on the 1st day the boards were up. I was member #18. I have been a member there longer than half of the moderators

They've re-designed the boards and it won't accept my log-in, and also don't have a person to contact with technical troubles. I assume that my password, being only 6 characters and having no numbers, is now not acceptable. I liked being member 18, and having just about the only username that was a member's real name, on a generally un-friendly and confrontational message board. I liked to think that the length of time I had been there, plus my high rating and my real name, would encourage newer members who needed help to find at least one person who wouldn't insult them or tell them how wrong they were about their problems, or their opinions of cars.

The boards were mostly a drag, full of people with inflated opinions of themselves or their cars, who disagreed with anyone at the drop of a hat. I had to explain in detail to an "automotive engineer" and "professional restorer" who liked to tell everyone how wrong they were about everything exactly how a few things worked. I'm no pro, but some things simply aren't so and he didn't even know about galvanic corrosion:rolleyes:

Now they are pretty much actively excluding me. Their loss. I don't know why I'm even mentioning it, other than to warn people away from getting "information" over at their forums, since I can't post over there anymore to dissolve some of the smoke and mirrors from people who think the frequency of personal insults directly conforms to how trustworthy their data is, and I refuse to re-register on general principles.

Well, sometimes it was actually fun to read how self-proclaimed 'experts' would try to make up one more lie to cover thier butts after they proved their ignorance.
Also most of the members there belive that Honda was the first car manufacturer to build an engine, and while I do admire Honda's late '60s F1 efforts, that doesn't make all their engines race mills and it would be simply astounding for you to see how many people who participate there really say they don't care if the need a 10 speed gearbox to stay in their 100 rpm powerband in the "ideal" race engine (also benchracing in the extreme, telling about their nanosecond shifting abilities) , which is invariably a 4 cyl, which will be the proper engine for any and all race applications. They get all excited about a 1 liter engine that makes 300 hp (but is useless in a real world car) and then use that as a 'fact' to tell anyone who cares to read it why this makes small engines superior to anything larger, in every car. Hey, 1 liter and 300 hp is a great acheivement and I am curious about the design and what have you, but I also live in the real world and 300 hp means nothing to me if the engine is impractical to use in a car. I would rather spend 5000 dollars to make 400 hp than 10000 to make 300, on an engine already designed to make power reliably, any day of the week.
There were (are, I suppose) 4 or 5 really helpful experienced and smart people there who I'll miss. Personally, I'm losing 0% information from not going there but I felt like I was helping some people out.

It happens. If v8buick.com changed to a new style board, you would lose your name, password, post count etc also. It's just part of the board workings.
It looks like they just started the new boards there, so just reregister if you want to continue to participate. It sounds like it was a hassle there anyway, so you may not want to bother. Just dont take it personally.

Chris, I just spent a few minutes checking it out. I have no idea why you would want to spend time there. C&D has been the Japanese/German car voice for a couple decades now, the forum, from the very limited time I looked, seems to reflect that.

    Phil-
Oh, I understand that, but V8Buick.com might send me an e-mail about it, tellme how to keep my username and any saved pm's, and maybe when it would happen. I do not think C&D did this to annoy me personally, it's just a crummy forum that I won't put up with any more.

    Mark-
yeah it's not a great forum. It's mostly arguments, and if old cars ever come up it's to knock them, from people who have no idea what a 4 stroke is. You could actually get dumber from reading some of the hooey over there. I remember a long disagreement with somebody over there about suspension technology and handling. Apparently it's news to most folks on C&D that a 30 year old car doesn't have to use the same suspension it left the factory with, and that technology didn't stand still for old cars but progressed for new ones:laugh:
