This stinking stomach/head/joint-pain flu is killing us up here in Calgary. I'm in my third week with this thing. :af: Started as stomach flu, became an ultra-high fever, mutated into the head cold from hell, then became the joint-pain-sleep thing that wouldn't let you stay awake. It's mutated into into a lingering cough now. :af:

    Solutions already tried:

    OJ/Echanacea/zinc/vitamin stuff.
Pass out before getting to the car to go to work, sleep all day.
Drink entire bottle of Ny-Quil, sleep thru weekend (thanks Denis Leary).
Sleep in a room with a humidifier on.
Work on the car and ignore the sucker.
1 bottle of Sctoch + some beers (OK, the better half keeps telling me this was a Christmas party but I insist I was only drinking to kill the germs)
    Chicken soup.

    ...it all failed miserably...

Since a mechanic has never killed me, but a doctor has made a good attempt I'll take everyones advice here...I'm getting desperate, I'll try anything!

It has to be a 'hot' whiskey, with a spoonfull of sugar and some cloves. It worked for me when I was in Ireland 14 years ago...

If you've already tried echanacea, you might want to dabble with 'olive leaf extract' as well. My dad and sister have taken it for colds with good results.

Equal parts honey, lemon and Makers Mark in hot water.
Dress in polar fleece and go to bed to swet the sucker out.
    20,000mg of VC/day.
    Lots of Ibuprofin and sudafed.
I think the best cure is to stay home and watch day time TV. Nothing will get you on the mend faster.

My grandmother always gave me Hot Totties. Thats hot tea with whisky, honey, lemon. I would drink about 5-6 before bed  . Which seem to lessen the pain after the second one. Pretty much cleared up after 2 days of doing this method. But why stop there!
Now anytime Iam feeling sick I sip on Hot totties.

ITS REALLY A GOOD IDEA TO STAY HOME USING THIS METHOD!!!! :Smarty:

  10. Get as much sleep as you need, drink your water, and get some exercise. Keeps the flu from ever setting on. Stay in shape and you'll boost your immunity. Rest enough for your body to recover. Drinking plenty of water is like a regular oil change in your car. Call it preventative maintanence for your body.

    Hot Totties

Yes, that works, hot totties, or whatever. However, I saw this in the Northwest Airlines mag on the airplane going home at Thanksgiving, and my Dad recommended it to my sister, who is now a High School Spanish teacher, with 144 students in 7 classes, as she had the crud. I haven't seen it anywhere, I looked in Rite Aid tonight but didn't find it. Here's the link

I was sick a couple of weeks ago, which is a very rare occurrence. My wife made me something with a bunch of honey and chopped, fresh garlic chunks. She heated it up in the microwave, and I ate it with a spoon. The chopped garlic was especially pungent once heated, and really "bit" my nose when I'd take a spoonful. From a taste standpoint it wasn't too bad, but my burps could clear a room!

A little Bailey's in hot chocolate (or coffee if you need the caffeine) is always a good drink. It probably won't cure you, but I could sure go for one right now. :Brow:

My thing is lots and lots of vitamin C. Buy some cough drops with 100% of your daily intake of vitamin c in each drop then keep eating them during the day along with drinking as much orange juice+kool-aid as you can stomach. I was just sick and that worked for me along with lots of sleep.

The most readily available things that really work are from Dr Richard Schulze of the American Botanical Pharmacy 1-800-Herb-Doc or Herbdoc.com. His Super Tonic is believed to be The cure for the common cold. You can buy it from him or make your own. It's Apple cider vinegar with equal parts of onion, garlic (also called Russian Penicillin) horseradish, and ginger root with some cayenne pepper. Try to buy organic ingredients, put it in a blender, let it settle out and gargle and swallow a small amount 5-6 times per day or as much as you can stand.
There is a great deal of difference in quality of echinacea products. It's been proven to stimulate immune systems and heal people of many diseases including cancer if taken properly. Schulze has a strong one for sale but he taught me how to make my own and save money. With four children in private school saving money is good. I buy powdered echinacea from Pacific Botanicals and add Vodka and some garlic. use a blender to mix, then pour it in a glass jar with an air tight lid. after it settles, the powder should be 2/3's with 1/3 liquid. It can be used immediately but it's best to shake it once a day for a month and store in a dark place. Take 2-4 dropperfuls (60-120 drops) every 4 hours. I'll have to look up PB's phone #
We also take a product called Congaplex ( 1/hour ) by Standard Process. They only sell to health practicioners. Call some Chiropracters, Nutritionists, of Naturopaths to find it.
Ambrotose from Mannatech will also stimmulate immune function. Unfortunately it's multilevel.
If you buy only one thing from Dr Schulze you will be on his mailing list and learn about cheap simple ways to stay or get healthy. I've missed only 2 days of work in 24 years due to sickness. Stay away from anything with simple sugar when sick. It absolutely handties your immune system for about 4 hours. Also don't try to get your fever down. The immune system works twice as fast for every degree above 98.6. A 4 degree fever has it working 16 times faster. Take some Tylenol only if it gets too high and uncomfortable.
Ascorbic acid ( the antioxidant part of Vit C) can be used like this: Take 1000 mg every 15 minutes until you have dirreahea. That's called bowel tollerance. The sicker you are the more you can tollerate.
Stay healthy so you can spend more time and money with your family and your Buicks!
