As you may know, I'm not a big fan of Detroit, but there is one diamond in the rough there, the Detroit Children's Hospital. It is one of the best in the nation and one we got to know better when our 2nd grandson, Colin, was born in November, and will rely upon for special care on an ongoing basis. He's fine but will require special dieting and testing to keep something called PKU under control. I won't attempt to describe it or explain it. Colgate is running a contest for hospitals and the one with the most online votes will get a new fun center donated for the kids from them. Detroit is in a virtual tie with Houston, Texas, right now and the contest ends tomorrow 2/29/08. Houston is leading with 31.28% of the votes to Detroit's 31.24% with the rest at 16% or lower. So it's really a two horse race. Houston just made a surge to go back ahead yesterday after Detroit caught them a few days before. You may be able to vote today and tomorow but not more than once in 24 hours. (I tried it). So if you get this in time and vote right away, there may be enough time before the contest ends tomorrow the 29th for a 2nd vote. Try again tomorrow just in case. I have a feeling that Houston also has many of these solicitations going on there right now, too. It's really simple and no strings attached. Just go to: http://www.colgate.com/app/Colgate/US/Corp/CommunityPrograms/show-the-love.cvsp ....and click on the Detroit button on the map. It then takes you to another screen to count your vote and see the status. Every one is important in a race this close so each one is important. There won't be any lawsuits or chad-counting to see who won afterwards. LOL. I'll post the results as soon as it's over and announced and appreciate all that participate. (BTW, Colin is a 2007 version of me (a virtual clone) but don't hold that against him. Hahahaha...........here he is with his brother Nathan in a January pic. In my deepest Elvis' voice impersonation :...."That's a big old baby.." Thanks, Dave
Thanks to all. Ponch 65, that was as of yesterday at 1:00 PM. They'll update again today, so with your help maybe we can put it over the top.....or scare the hell out of Houston. With 18,000 members on V8Buick, it'll sure get good coverage.
I see Houston pulled out to a full point lead. Thanks to all maybe this will put us over the top. The good part about this is that kids win whether they're in Michigan or Texas. I also hit the animal rescue site 4 or 5 times a day. It lets you do it every time you sign onto the internet. http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/home.faces?siteId=3
Done Dave, It might have been a tough one for us if the Chicago Hospital was Childrens Memorial, since they saved our son's life back in 03. But Detroit gets our vote here for ya. :TU: D.
Voted. My youngest son spent 63 days in the NICU at Mayo. They all deserve new play areas for the kids. Mayo gets lots of money so didn't expect to see them on the list.
This is going right down to the wire.......over soon. Thanks to all. I just made my last allowable vote and it took it.
I just voted. Wish I would have found this sooner. Anything for children. I can tell ya from experiance. Walking down the halls and seeing the children will make you forget about ANY problems you have. You know Dave, I remember you showing me a picture one time at one of our meets, telling me thats what it`s all about, not the cars or anything else. You were right and I`ve never forgotten that.
I thought it was only in Chicago that you could vote more than once :Brow: Yeah, I did it again too...... but I cleared my cookies first just in case.
Colgate announced that all 9 participants will be given a fun center, and the winner will receive a second one. That will be announced Monday. At last count, Detroit had caught and passed Houston by almost a full percentage point, so fingers are crossed that it held or was even expanded throughout yesterday. Wouldn't it be a great P.R. move on C-P's part to award one to both the first and second place teams as they were so close and so far ahead of the rest. Hopefully a few other companies will see the success of this promotion and do similar things in the future. I sure had fun following it and hope you did, too. Will post the final tally on Monday when announced. Dave Heilala
We put it over the top! http://www.colgate.com/app/Colgate/US/Corp/CommunityPrograms/show-the-love/vote/results-static.cvsp Thanks to all who supported this and helped the Chidren's Hospital of Michigan catch up and surpass Houston on the last day of the contest. I really think you made a difference at the last minute when it really counted. Final tally: Detroit................34.96% Houston..............33.15% C-P awarded all who participated a fun center. For this, the Detroit Hospital will receive an additional fun center. Sweet! :bglasses: This was fun!
