Keep at it, Marc. Like others have said, convertible weather is just around the corner. All it takes is that one person who falls in love with it.

Are you moving to a place where you can’t use the Electra? Best of luck of the sale

Truth is, my health and ability to work is taking a turn, and I may be forced to retire before I can afford to. That also includes any kind of physical work on cars. It's kind of tough to do from a wheelchair, which is going to be the end result, hopefully later rather than sooner.

I'm going to be retiring to the Island, and at over $2 a litre (About $5.50 US a gallon) I can't afford to drive it on what I would get for a pension, right now it's $200 to fill the tank. There will also be storage issues, to store something is expensive out there, and to buy extra parking is stupid too. ICBC is also pretty tough on vintage cars for an "out of province" inspection from what I'm told, and I can't afford to sink a fortune into what they think might be wrong, they want everything "new". I'm tired of shoving substandard modern knock-off parts into it, and the NOS stuff is old enough to be suspect now too, not to mention expensive and hard to find.

I drove the car 3 times last year, and to do my usual trip to the Island would have cost over $600 one way. WestJet is cheaper. So to drive it works out to be about a dollar a mile. Not to mention, I can only use the car for about 4 months every summer if I'm lucky out here, otherwise it sits in a garage for 8 months out of the year. It just doesn't make any sense to keep it any longer, it's time to pass it on to someone who can preserve it, enjoy it, and finish it.

Understood. I would sell my cars if I moved to Nanaimo as well where from. Icbc is a mess to deal with.

I saw LPG for sale in Canada, maybe it's an idea to convert your car to run on LPG?
    It's only CAD 0.96 a litre.

    Is "the Island" Vancouver Island?
They sell LPG on the island:

Photo I took of an LPG station in Lethbridge, price per litre in 2011 was 64.9 cent

EDIT: Or do you mean Prince Edward Island?

    Marc,

I have always liked your car, and your posts about it.

I hate reading posts when "time/circumstance" reaches a time such is this.

You have my respect and well wishes in your future.

I'm going to Vancouver Island, my parents retired out there 25 years ago and they really need help now, and as stated, my condition is such that I may be forced to retire so I'll also move out there if that occurs and kill two birds with one stone. I've done my 50 years in Siberia, so I want out of here too. So I'm starting to downsize the house and clean out the garage. I could go this year, but it's definitely going to be next year regardless.
I'm not sure high compression engines do well on LPG, and in BC it's also illegal to park it in any parkades or covered buildings if it's so equipped, and insurance is expensive for one because of the flammability issues. So they get you one way or the other, that's why LPG never took off over here as it has in Europe. I'm not about to convert it and ruin its originality either, around here that would just make it more impossible to sell.
I'm planning on moving to a condo, so there likely won't be much in the way of extra parking either. Real estate is stupidly overpriced out there, (thanks to its proximity to Vancouver) and for what I can bag for my big house out here I should be able to downsize to a main floor condo near Victoria but not in it.

Well Erik, not sure spending $1500 to convert a car to LPG which I then couldn't insure or park anywhere and that I already can't sell is a viable solution to a problem that I've already solved. I'm not in a position to spend any more money on that car to either complete it, or to make it more efficient, it has to go, simple as that.

Crap. I guess I can't compete with that.
I'd like to say mine is better, about the only thing that's better on that one is the front seat. However, that said, that might be an original car and mine is a mid-nineties repaint.
    Oh well...

If you look close, that car has been repainted and all the "Electra 225" badges have been removed and the holes for them have been filled. Plus trunk and tail light trim is missing......Big turnoff for me. I'd say yours is much nicer.

I would buy it in a heartbeat and enjoy the heck out of it.....but the miles/hassles to get it here to Cornfield Indiana are too much for me.....plus i gotta finish TOPCAT's successor :)

Looks like it just sold, got a deposit, it's going to Manitoba at the beginning of next month.
So after it's gone, I will be officially "Buickless" for the first time in 40 years. :(
I'll still be hanging around here...

Here we go again; - the buyer backed out of the deal after driving in from down east for 13 hours, had the trailer ready to load and everything, climbed underneath for one last look and saw a little bit of rust on a rear body mount, (a usual spot) then got back into his very rusty late model truck and started heading back east. Texted me an hour later that he wasn't going to follow through with the deal.

What's a guy to say to that besides "wow"?

So the car is back for sale, or should I say the Albatross? 'Cuz that's the way this thing feels, like a bloody albatross around my neck. I would have never imagined that it would be this difficult to give away a completely serviceable legally driving convertible that has oodles of power, is mechanically reliable, starts in the cold and even looks good. I could see it if the car was a total POS, but it's not. Even the damn heater works. I'd trust it to make it to St. Johns, or heading south, to Miami, and back again.

Damn. I am really sorry to hear that.
Difficult enough to have to part with something you don't want to give up and then have that happen like that.
