Brass is better if you can find one that fits. A recore of your old heater can be done at a radiator shop. The aluminum heater cores are OK, but you really have to stay on top of the conductivity of the coolant to keep it from failing early. I put an aluminum heater core in my Skylark (the brass one was one row of tubes shy of fitting the box properly), and used water soluble oil to insulate the cooling system. I sold the car, so won't be held accountable for its longevity.

Try to avoid Chinese if at all possible. Have had good luck with Mexican ones.

basically I have 3 choices, a original that appears to be good even date coded right. A reproduction brass and a reproduction aluminum for 1/2 the cost of brass.

If you have a line on an original that is unused, you'd be crazy to pass that thing up.

Take it to get pressure tested. When restoring mine I actually pulled my original HC and put in an a copper one. When I pulled the box out again to replace firewall insulation I put the old one back in. Built like a tank, original Harrison unit.
