Brass is better if you can find one that fits. A recore of your old heater can be done at a radiator shop. The aluminum heater cores are OK, but you really have to stay on top of the conductivity of the coolant to keep it from failing early. I put an aluminum heater core in my Skylark (the brass one was one row of tubes shy of fitting the box properly), and used water soluble oil to insulate the cooling system. I sold the car, so won't be held accountable for its longevity.
basically I have 3 choices, a original that appears to be good even date coded right. A reproduction brass and a reproduction aluminum for 1/2 the cost of brass.
Supposed to have been pulled years ago from a wrecking yard from another 70 just have a problem with all this work and installing a 46 year old part Its been on a shelf for 20plus years
Take it to get pressure tested. When restoring mine I actually pulled my original HC and put in an a copper one. When I pulled the box out again to replace firewall insulation I put the old one back in. Built like a tank, original Harrison unit. Mark
