I Need the smallest Dual alternator pulley, there is, the one that I have now is a little to large so when the engine is stationairy its only loading 11.5 volts to the battery.

I can't change the lower crankpulley due to the race balancer setup.

I have several that I have pulled off of cars, but I don't know the size. They are stock Buick 70-72 Skylark pieces. Are you looking for an aftermarket or something smaller than these?

I have the stock alu dual groove pulleys on the alternator.

I will take the outer and inner diameter, but yes I need it to be smaller then the stock one, or an Alternator that spins faster with this stock pulley! :beer

Tagging on. I have the exact opposite problem, I am getting too much juice to my battery making it out gas.

Waiting for your pully dimensions, I may have the one you need, mine is pretty tiny and would be willing to swap.

Overcharging is an issue with the alternator or most likely the voltage regulator. The pulley size is not there to limit the output.:Smarty:

This is a picture of the alternator and pulley I took of my old engine and is now on my new engine.

I will let you know the diameter.

That was my diagnosis. Where can I get a new one, local parts store does not carry them? I did find one on line, but it looks different than the orig. Also, you do not think a diode that I place on number four for my MSD would cause such a problem?
    Thanks.

That is a big pulley. There are stock pulleys that are a good bit smaller. 11.5 is low so there may other issues as well. I have some pulleys if you need one. Mark

No is just due to the large pulley size, the alternator is ok just turns to slow to make enough juice.

The smallest pulley I have is 2 5/16 inches. Outside diameter or about 59mm. Mark

    Guys,

As was pointed out, the pulley size is not intended to control output. If the battery is gassing, it is likely due to either a defective battery or excessive voltage from the regulator. The pulley is intended to control the alternator rotation speed as the engine speed builds. It is possible to over-rev the alternator with a smaller pulley. This over-revving can damage the alternator. Some simple math will calculate the alternator speed, using the ration of the crank pulley to the alternator pulley. Heads up guys... Ray

since alt idle shaft speed has been compromised by smaller crank pulley and a large alt pulley low speed alt out put will be less. a smaller alt pulley will help this condition. How much is questionable. Joe I's over charge condition is best served by leaving the pulley alone and fixing the problem. Opa will benefit some with a smaller pulley. Mark

Ok here it is, outside diameter size of my alternator pulley is 790mm or 7,9cm
So I need the 690mm or the 590mm size.
Must be a double groove pulley, so I'm in a straightline with the lower crank pulley.

Ok who has this pulleys laying around, and likes to help me out here.
I prefer a nice looking pulley cause all the rest of the engine is new.
    Except for the alternator.

    Tnx!

    Robert

Opa I think you mean 59mm. Not 590mm. 1 inch is equal to approx. 26mm. I have a 59mm od pulley if you want it. It is an original delco pulley, so the allignment will be right. It looks pretty good. There are a couple of small nicks on it but nothing severe or near the belt landings. There is a little pitting where the nut goes, but I don't think you will see it anyway. $20.00 + shipping. If you don't like it i'll take it back.

Yes 5.9cm is 2.32inch ok so that one that you have is a double groove pulley also, were normally you can place two belts on?

    If so I'm interested.

And will let you know tomorrow, have to check out a local alternator shop first who said they had some laying around.

    Tnx

Ok tnx Mark if you have the right pulley how soon can you send it to me by priority airmail.
How do you like to be paid, I have paypall.

Here are a couple of closeup pictures of the pulley.
I think I will have the alternator taken apart and cleaned inspected and painted before I installed it, its out now anyway, and it looks like it could use a clean up and it will look better with the new engine.

Most of the Buciks of the day used about a 2.5" diameter pulley. The smaller ones were used on big cars with rear window defoggers because more juice was needed so they spun faster.
