I'm installing a new clutch in my 67 442. I need some help selecting a good clutch that doesn't take a mule to push the pedal. Any help? I've heard the centerforce dual friction is a good one that isn't to tough on the left leg. Thanks Harvey
None better. Been running one in my Ramrod for 6 years with no problems. You'll like the pedal effort improvement.
Street car only - CenterForce II Strip Use - CenterForce Dual Friction Have the flywheel resurfaced, and replace all the bushings in the clutch linkage as well.
Ran most of the others in the past, Right now I would not buy anything but a Centerforce Dual Friction. Ran one in my Vette for 6 years, it's going in a '51 Hot Rod now. Running one in my '64 Merc for 5 years. It's 4300lbs Running one in the '58
Jim: Did you lose the clutch on the 66 at some time? It was new when he put it on, but i didn't like the look of it.
In a left handed way I did. It was just sitting in my garage. It had been running and driving fine. However, one day it had done a mind meld with the flywheel on its own just sitting there. You could rock the car and do whatever you wanted but it was locked tight as Dick's hat band and would not disengage. I had to get the car out of the garage with a roll back so we could take it to a lift, pull the trans and put the new Centerforce Clutch and Plate in.
Jim: You going to be at the Olds Nats in Bowling Green this year? I think I'm going to make it for the first time since the Centennial in 1997. Not sure which car to bring. Had planned to do everything with the 66 this year, but getting a coupla requests to bring the lumpy Ramrod. They want to start a new class up for race cars and have my car as the one bookend as the most stock race car. I'm not too excited about the judging, but they're working on a theme concept and my car would be an original Pure Stock theme. Black one may better represent that due to its restored condition. On the other hand, it would be interesting to have both black 66's together. They're virtually identical except for the A/C in yours. Same history, same conversions, both bought from the same guy, and restored by two brothers in law, Gary and I.
In the absence of rain if you are going to be there Buicklawyer I will make it a point to come. In the past we have always come in by aircraft because I am not much on towing but maybe he will give me a hand. Now that I think about it he is a master judge for those year 66-72. I bet he will be judging the cars.

While we are on the topic the NHRA nostalgia car race event has gotten so popular that Beech Bend could no longer handle it. So this year it was moved to National Trails. I am not going to miss that again. Have you thought about attending? Incidentally, we have been in the 60s and 70s so I am going to take the 66 Olds out for a spin between now and Wednesday.
JUNe 15-17 . I think it is now called the midwest reunion. Check it out here: http://www.geezergassers.com/ Can you see the link to www.geezergassers.com? There are a lot more than gassers attending. People run like Arnie Beswick etc.
Man, the name "geezergassers.com" is one of those links I just don't dare click on. Can you imagine some of the photos that might pop up?
That is especially true when the faces begin to look awfully familiar. Everyone I know that has gone to the event has loved it. Bobby Warren from down here was National Champ with his Camero and he told me he was going. If you look at the Beech Bend pictures of the event a lot of cars and drivers from the past are there and actually running each other again so the cars are not just static. I saw Arnie Beswick in October and he is back driving just about as quick as ever. I would guess he might be 75.
Here is a link to a review of one of the past years at Beech Bend. http://www.draglist.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi?archive=13&num=695 I undestand that so many people showed up in BG the last couple of years that Beech Bend was not big enough thus the move in 2007 to National Trails. I saw where one of those old front engine jobs ran in the 6 plus second quarter and a gasser ran in the 8 s . You got have some big ones to drive one of thoise boys that fast.
Brian: Post a coupla pics of your old Willys! This old gasser stuff really gets the juices flowing! Thanks, Jim.
