Hello, I have a 72 skylark 350 i've been slowly working on for a few years now. Its an automatic with column shift. When I dropped the steering column a few years ago, I never reinstalled the shift indicator linkage pieces that go from the steering column, to a slot on the bottom of the speedo. The parts had gotten lost somewhere during the disassembly. However, I have now obtained the two replacement linkage pieces needed in order for the shift needle on the speedo to properly reflect the change in gear when I shift the car. The linkage pieces I have are original, off a same year skylark. FOR THE LIFE OF ME, I cannot seem to remember how these pieces properly mount to the steering column. The linkage consist's of two pieces, a peculiar looking bracket that mounts on the steering column itself with a screw, and the "hooped" metal clip that routes through the slot at the bottom of the speedo, and to the bracket mounted on the steering column. I would really appreciate if anyone here is familiar with exactly WHERE this bracket piece is supposed to be mounted on the steering column. YOU WOULD MAKE MY DAY!. Any advice on installing/tinkering with the lever linkage is greatly appreciated. A picture of one mounted would be a life saver but I have yet to come across one, if you have one please post! I will post pictures of the two linkage pieces later this morning if im not able to figure it out by then. Thanks guys! Have a great day!

On the column bowl, theres a slotted hole that that goofy clip goes over, you can slide the clip on the bowl to adjust the needle, then tighten the set screw.
Sorry I don't have a pic for yah:(

Thanks man. I've been out here tinkering for a little while but no luck so far really. Is the slotted "hole" you speak of just a hole? Like the size of the set screw That keeps this clip in place? Or are you referring to the longer more cylindrical actual slot on the column? Sorry man. I'm not to experienced with columns

Yes it did thank you very much! I got it in place and the linkage set in. My only last obstacle is finding out wether I need to go get a set screw with the same specs as the original one used or if I can just use one of the many various size ones I have laying around here. Any input on that? Normally I'd just go for it but it is a steering column I'm drilling into so I want to be cautious lol

You don't need to drill anything! The screw goes through the slot in the column. The clip has the threads for the screw. The slot is there so you can adjust the position of the indicator on the speedo. So if you put the trans in drive and the indicator points to "N", you can move the clip on the column so it points to "D".

oh okay!. So the screw just threads into the bracket and doing that secures it inside the "slot" on the column? Correct? If thats the case i've been over complicating the heck out've this one.
