Hi guys and gals, I have begun tearing apart my engine compartment in order to detail everything. I was wondering what I could do to replace these pieces that attatch to the blower housing for the A/C unit. The larger piece that is faded to grey in the picture below looks to be similar to this peice I found from Y1. http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/part.asp?pid=QT65&c=0&e=0&cat=2&hid=216AE56880 Does anybody know if it is the same piece? If so, can I get it anywhere else? The second piece, the 'vacuum disc switch' looks to have the gromet rusted out around it. I have know idea about this part so any help would be great. Hope someone can help, Thanks,
You'll probably never find those parts new. Assuming you want it to look nice, Here's what I did: I carefully masked and bead blasted each part, including the hoses, and then painted the metal parts with plasticote spray can paint #618 Steel Wheels. It's urethane and looks like bare steel when dry. They also make a gold wheels color, but it is not exactly like gold cad plating. You can't plate parts with plastic and rubber in them. The faded black plastic you could paint with flat or semi gloss black lacquer. Try old air products in Texas. I don't have their phone number.
here's how mine looks The brake booster you can hardly see is painted with the "gold wheels" , all the a/c stuff is painted with "steel wheels". All steel brackets were gold zinc plated and cleared w/ lacquer.
Thanks for the info, I will give them a try. Any thoughts of that product from YearOne being the correct part? Here it is again: http://www.yearone.com/serverfiles/part.asp?pid=QT65&c=0&e=0&cat=2&hid=216AE56880
I don't think so on the Year One part. But the Old Air Products part is correct for the earlier Rivs 64 & 65, they used two of them under the hood on the firewall for the A/C. I resto'd the A/C on my 64 Riv last year, and bought two of them from Old Air Products for $37 a piece. I had to trim about 1/8" off the actuator arm and drill a new mounting hole to get an exact match for the fit and range of motion of my old original parts. Give 'em a call, they have great tech support over the phone. It looks like it'll work on your 66. Forgot to mention that Classic Auto Air in FL will rebuild your old unit for $75. And GM Obsolete in PHX sells a repop for around $75, too.
