Its a BOP 8.5 rear with 3.23 gears,28 axle sline,27 pinion spline.Pass side#1385724 F,driver side LC N301.The pinion shaft is shorter by a 1/2 inch or so in length than other shafts that I have. It also has 2 different size carrier bearings.I would like to know what this came out of.Thanks Bob

Are you sure it isn't an 8.2? The 8.2's have a 27 spline pinion. The 8.5 has a 30 spline pinion. Post some pictures of the rear cover, and u-joint hook up.

The ring gear fits on a 410409N 8.5 posi carrier so it has to be a 8.5.It also has the earlier U joint staps that go thru and have a nut to tighten and the ring gear bolts have a 3/4 inch head and 3/8 left hand thead. I will post some pictures later

LC shows up as a 3.23:1 ratio, open rear, from a 66-70 A-Body Buick, US built.
Should, however, be on the RH side axle tube, not the LH side.
The N301 may be a date code.

Ok, ALL 8.2 gears will fit the 8.5 carrier inner diameter... Just the way GM did that. Bol pattern lines up perfect too. SOOOO oooo you can not compare by that.
U-joint straps will most likely ID as a 10 bolt 8.2 BOP or early chevy 64-66.

CArrier bearings being to different sizes is a DEAD give away it is a 68-70 Buick 8.2 rear. The pinion gear will also have a larger 1.875 inner bearing shaft, 27 spline yoke.

Hit my site and look up the pictures I bet you find in ...that casting is actually a Nodular casting like the Pontiac 'N' housings... It is very thick casting with little definition to the casting... Good luck. It would be easier it you just posted pictures of the rear then it is a NO brainer... :) Jim
