I am trying to find out what it would take to fix this chunk that is missing off of this center console? I am not sure, but I think the top on this is rubber, but who knows for all I know it could be vinyl. Is it fixable, and still be able to keep the texture of the console without a huge difference in variance?
Or do they make any sort of a repro top to this?

Would also like some help on securing the top of this console(The rubber or vinyl piece) in place. It seems to be not completely glued or however it is on there, in place. How would I takle this problem also, assuming there is not repro top available. Any help appreciated, thanks.

The console lid top is secured to the lid base with sheet metal screws. Look on the underside of the lid & you will find a series of 8- 1/4" holes. The steel plate the vinyl lid is cast onto has predrilled holes up inside.

Were you looking for a pushbutton for this? Very hard to stumble upon.

I have a thread in the "parts wanted" section with pics of the console, and what I need. It is the striker on the inside of the console that the pushbutton latch catches onto to hold the console top in place. On my pic it shows the area where it goes, and you can see the two screw holes where it would attach too.

I know what you mean now. Didn't get to your pics but I remember what it is from my car. Might be hard to find one BUT..I think you could probably make one quite easily.
It's basically a piece of bent steel wire. Shaped like a "U" with a loop at each mounting screw. The bottom of the "U" is more flat than round & the two sides of it are bent to put the bottom under the catch from the pushbutton.
Send me your private e-mail & I'll get you a pic from the parts book.

Scott you just seem to be the answer to all of my questions lately, I appreciate your help. I will be calling the CARS tomarrow morning and find out if this is the right one. I am wondering if that top is the one for the tri shield emblem which is the 69-70, and the late 70's-72 had the pushbutton top. The pic looks like the one for the tri shield, but who knows I will find out soon enough.
It makes me wonder if they sell this part as a repro, why wouldn't someone else?

    Console latch diagram

    Andrew,
Here's a diagram from the parts book. Likely be able to make the striker if you can't find one.
If you go looking the P/N is Gr. 10.242 # 1234574

I spoke with CARS and I will have to wait until monday to find out if it is the pushbutton top for my console. They have to wait to get it in hand and check it out in person, since he said that the catalog is just a reference and that the real part my not be the one listed in the catalog. I appreciate your help on the pic of the striker, if I can't find one I will have to make one, but thanks a lot for your help on this.

Pretty sure it's the top with the hole in it for a pushbutton latch. I looked into it last year & another member had similar issues about a month ago. He needed the cover for a spring latch, no pushbutton. He was looking at these & considering putting a Buick logo of somekind over the hole.

That is good to know. I spoke with a guy by the name of Kevin with CARS today for the second time and he seems to think it is the right one. But who knows, he is not for sure but seems to think so. We will see. I have ordered the part as of now and pray to God it is the right one. He said they are NOS, and not a repro or used, another plus. He also said they only have them in light brown.
