Open glovebox door. Trip the latch by pushing the pawl towards the glovebox door, about 75 degrees (Should 'click' as goes into latched position). Put key in lock, turn to 'lock' position, looking at the slot on the back (See the key pin come into position?). Insert paperclip, small screwdriver, or leather awl into little slotted hole in lock assembly on backside of glovebox door panel. Push down about 1/8 inch to remove lock cylinder. Then remove the nut from behind where the pretty lock cylinder cover was, and pull out the latch sub-assembly.

I have never heard of this method, but I'm going to try it. The way I do it is to push the teeny tiny screwdriver in the hole which pulling on the knob in the front. The screwdriver pushes the gate down so you can pull it out slightly. Then push the next gate, and the knob pulls out a little more. You repeat the process till all the gates are pushed and the tumbler will come out.

By tripping the latch, and inserting the key and turning it to the lock position, the 'lock tumblers' or gates, as you called them, are flush with the inner bore of the lock cylinder, so you only have to depress the first 'locking tang' to remove the lock. :TU:
