need help on value of 64 Riv

  1. Ran across a fellow with a 64 Riviera. the car has 31 thousand actual miles and is in great shape except for a couple minor dings and a faded repaint from years ago. options are cruise, tilt, pw, speed alert, power antenna, 425, no A/C, power trunk release and i think power drivers seat. thee car is a light blue color and ALL the chrome on the car is pit free. the reason it only has 31 k on it is because the original owner ws a 93 year old woman and she rarely drove it. judging by lack of pedal wear and condition of interior i believe it. is this car worth the 3500.00 asking price? hasnt been started in 11 years. Bob,

Assuming the car will start up and runs good, that seems like a pretty good deal!

Now, if you have to rebuild all the mechanicals, you might be able to find a better deal on one already done. There was just one on ebay with the same type of story, but I can't remember what it went for. I think it was a running car though.

I'd say it is but you have to be prepared to go through everything. Lots of dry seals, belts, hoses, vacuum lines, bad fluids, bugs, mice, hidden corrosion, and who knows what else. I would be hesitant to start it unless somebody already has before doing a bunch checking. The brakes could be real scary too. The lines and hoses would be one of the first things changed. I don't care if they look good from the outside, they fail from the inside. Good luck with your decision, I love my 64 Riv.

If you pass please pass on the info I may be interested myself.

    Deal. Flat out.

Too bad it doesn't have AC.

But if it is rust and rodent free, then fluid, rubber and belt change is cheap.

    Jeff,

He'll probably have to drop the gas tank and have it flushed, change all the fuel lines too. If it hasn't been turned over the plugs need to be pulled and some penetrating oil or Marvel Mystery Oil squirted in each cylinder and hope the rings aren't seized before turning it over. The carb will probably need a rebuild too. What type of climate has the car been sitting in for the last 11 years too? Check for water in the oil from either condensation or or a crack somewhere. Radiator is probably shot from sitting too. I would hope some maintenance was done over the course of time it sat, but you never know. Probably a ton more thing too but worth the price, especially if it runs OK.

Right. If it was garaged, which is probably the case - Riv owners were wealthy in their day and tended to garage their cars - then doiong fuel lines, an 18$ carb rebuild, gas tank flush and total tune up is only a couple hundred $$$ - which is cheap when the purchase price is ideal.

Even if it doesn't run, it's a good deal (if not eat up with rust). Go for it and you have a perfect foundation for resto.

  9. I went over last night and using a new battery and a can of gas i was able to get the car running. the fuel pumpm isnt working or at least nothing is coming from the tank but it does run when gas is poured in the carb. started getting an electrical smell when cranking and suspect a bad connection at the plug on the ignition switch. it did smoke a lot but i think thats to be expected after sitting as long as it did. all power windows work and all the rest of the things seem ok. 10. I only found two tiny spots of rust and they are just very small bubbles in the rockers just in front of the rear wheels.. very solid

  11. most of the old one like that had a problem with the fuel line that runs up the right side of the car rusting alot of pin holes in them.

Low value is over $4k. You can't go wrong.
