One of the boys at work has the check engine light on and these are the codes and descriptions. It has the 3800 engine.

341 Intermittant cam signal. Cam/crank error. Ratio of fuel control pulses to cam pulses does not equal 6:1 for 10 occurences during key cycle.

321 18 X ignition pulses, no spark reference pulses. Defective ignition control module or faulty pcm.

    361 EST line not toggling.

First thought is the crank position sensor is bad.

    What are y'all thoughts?

    Thanks.

Seems like a logical place to start. Might also ask if anything has been adjusted or taken off - could possibly just need adjusting.

If that's a high mileage car, listen for timing chain noise. Anything over 80k should probably consider a new timing set and cam sensor. The magnet for the cam sensor is located on the inside of the timing cover, so that would be the best time to replace it. They can also get destroyed from a real sloppy chain.

    Don't forget a new balancer bolt w/loctite!!

    Thanks for the info.

The car has 134k and not much work at all done to it that he has spoken of.

You might want to pull the cam sensor out and check to see if the magnet is still intact in the cam gear these have a tedency to loosen up and take off then you will have a eratic or missing cam signal. The cam sensor is behind the water pump towards the back side of the front cover.Remove the sensor and take a mirror and roll the motor over until you see the magnet put a screw driver etc someting metal in the front cover and make sure the magnet is still good and tight in the cam gear.If not you will have to remove the front cover and replace the magnet also a good time to change the tc and gears.I have had to do this many times .
