I was installing new parts in my column & a part fell out. Its a GM tilt column in a 1969 buick wildcat. I have been in these columns before & this is the first time i have seen this piece. I believe i have identified it on the parts breakdown as a (bumper) but have no idea where is goes. The part is rubber with a square part that extends out. I'm sure a lot of you have been through these columns. Please help.
Its hard to see what size it is without any real context, but if its really small, that could be the little rubber tilt bumper for the tilt stops
I have rebuilt over 600+ tilt columns..that has to be a very very early 69 tilt...1969-1994 GM/Saginaw tilt columns are basically the same design. I have attached a pic of an 80's tilt column anchor...I believe the part you have is the same as the white ones at the 11 and 1 o'clock positions...they prevent the upper housing from making metal-to-metal contact when the wheel is moved to the uppermost position.
That would make sense. I assume it would have 2 of them, one for each side. I'll check and see if it goes there. Thank you
