I'd like to solve a problem .. It's a Canadian made Buick car but I don't know what is the model / year / engine , color etc... I have in the other hand is the VIN , paint and trim color code , body and engine #. I was told that the early 60's GM have the year instead of the division in first place on the V.I.N. for around 67 and older (Buick=4) My first tought was a 1965 Buick (5) Skylark 2 dr sport coupe (4437) Can someone solve this puzzle ? thank you for your time and knowledge ! Here's the numbers I got . PHP: model 44-37 serial 54437813603 engine 9b156150 trim 620 body serial 3145 paint 583
Hi Donald, The first digit of the VIN is the model year on the pre-67 Canadian Buicks (and other Canadian GM cars). This isn't true for the US models. You are right, the serial number says it's a 65 Skyark coupe. It should have wall-to-wall taillights and it's the only year it does. About the trim and paint codes. I have no idea. I know some for Canadian Wildcats and LeSabres but not Skylarks.
Hi Phil , so the 67' begins by a 4 and 66' by a 6 , and on ..... My 68 is a Canadian car and start with a 4 indeed Merci ! Donald
ID of a vehicle Hello fellow Buick Members, If a GM car was built in Canada or built in the US and sold in Canada you can phone 1-888-467-6853 or outside of Canada phone 905-644-4060 and give George Zapora your vin # and you can get the build sheet of your vehicle, telling where, when it was built and shipped to and lists all the options. Everyone i know uses this service to tell if a GM car is a clone. My 72 GS was built in Framingham and i got the 20 page information sheet on it for $30. Marco has a copy of it. Bill Arseneau
The car appears to be a 55 Special , the first 5 in the VIN is for the year (Canadian model) Still searching for the rest ... color paint(583) & trim(620) And the engine , but I wonder if it's the same thing as American 55 Buick Special o No: The car is in barn , that belong to a grand father of a person I know . Thanks to Buick.net http://www.buicks.net/shop/reference/identification_cdn.html
I didn't notice that there was a missing 4 in the number! The 65 Skylark was 544437, not 54437. That explains the strange paint code!
55 Special Apart from the 5, The first numbers in the serialnumber is the same as the Fisher Body style number 44-37 which would make it a 2 door hardtop Special model number 46R ! Anyways... I found this note in my chassis parts book : 1955 Note : Flint build cars have two digit trim combination numbers stamped on the body name plate while B.O.P. built cars have three digit numbers. The trim combination is specified by the last two digit numbers and the first number, which in all cases is four, merely specifies Buick is for B.O.P. use You could imagine that canadian Buicks then would have a 6 as the first number as in that Buick here, that would give this here Buick a trim number 20, but theres no such thing in the american trim combination chart ! hope I didn't add to the confusion !?
