    Chris Lott 4 speed finally

Buying a '70 GS350 4 speed, but need help decoding the build sheet. Primarily I'd like to know if it had the consolette on the 4 speed and the shorty center concole, or if it was just one or the other. I'd also like to figure out which wheels it had from the factory, and which rear axle it had. Most of this stuff I can figure out, but some of it I'd like to what know what it stands for. If someone could lend some help decoding this, it would be greatly appreciated.

Which line would i look under on the build sheet to find the correct axle if I didn't list it already, the correct steering wheel, and the correct wheels if they weren't listed above? I have this info, but can't make out all of the labels. Thanks in advance for any help.

Unless I am mistaken, if an item is not spelled out on the build sheet it the car would have come with whatever was standard. So in regards to your wheels, the GS would have had poverty caps. Likewise, it would have had the standard rear end, 3.08 I believe. I believe the D57 Consolette is the one around the shifter, not the storage bin between the seats.

More research by others might help but for '71 the numbers are probably the same.
D57 looks like the consolette around the manual floor shifter.
D56 would be the short non-shift floor console.
The interesting one appears to be C56 Upper level vent fans. Two electric fans (mounted behind the kick space covers I think) in series with the dash vent ducts. Switch on the upper flat piece of the radio bezel with two speed selector. Kind of a half way point between plain heater system & an AC set-up. Don't see many of these around.

Interesting note on the vent fans, hopefully they are still intact. I've never seen nor heard of such an option, and I'd be willing to bet they aren't easy to find.

    Chris,
I heard of that option in a convt. once. It has a switch at the radio bezel. I was told it was for cars destined for the big cities. Some thing to do with more ventilation. Duane would know he was telling me about it some time ago.

What is the color combo of this car?
It sounds like it is well optioned.
Also as far as the rear end ratio. I thought on a GS-350 car the standard ratio in the 8.2 was 3.23? That would be my guess since Performance axle is not an option with this car.

The color combo is Sherwood Green, Green Top, Black Deluxe interior.

Lastly, I found the Axle code on the sheet and it's the 3.23 open. Where would I find the wheel (poverty/rallye/etc) code on the buildsheet and where would I find the steering wheel code (and the decoder?). On the wheels I want to know if they had trim rings or not, and on the steering wheel I'm curious if this car had the boomerang black wheel, or the deluxe trapezoid type wheel. Thanks for the help guys!

the vent fans are indeed rare--have only seen them on a convert at the GS Nats one year (green convert). Without the a/c I guess they were willing to pay extra for a little airflow. There should be a small stud and nut sticking up through the top of the cowl/firewall---I think this holds each fan assembly inside the vent/cowl area. Maybe someone has a pic.

Sounds like an interesting car Chris. Good luck with the research, I don't have a clue. Was hoping to see you race at Temple. Maybe next year.. :beer

Yeah, I wasn't paying attention to the board and missed the date. That's ok, the GSX still needs tires and a good motor tune. I think that my friend Bo (BevoBo50 on here) is going to pick it up and finish it out, he's got a pretty good eye for detail and will make it right. That will allow me to divert funds and get this 4 speed car goin. I feel like I have buick ADD over here, but I should be keeping this one for a while. Gotta buy them all... :3gears:

This one fell through guys, so I'm still on the hunt. I'd appreciate a heads up on any '70 GS 4 speed, I'll pay a finders fee as well. I just have to find one.

My GSX has this forced air option, code C57. The two speed switch is located on the upper flat horizontal portion of the radio bezel. I have some photos, I'll try to send along after work. The fans reside in the cowl area and bolt upward through the cowl with studs and nuts visible. It blows through the upper vents, and of course on non-AC cars only. I have an extra bezel and switch I picked up long ago as they are a pretty rare option.

Here are the 1970 production numbers for "Forced comfort-flo ventilation" UPC C57, Sales code I2.

    455 Coupes = 171
    Conv. = 33
    350 Coupe = 129

This option was first available in 1969.

The UPC code "C56" is for Instrument Panel Ventilation and is option "I9 - Comfort-flo ventilation" for "A" body cars, except GS. It is the same as the "Forced comfort-flo" except without the fans. The non-forced "comfort-flo" ventilation was standard on the GS cars
