    Need Help:

    1989 Buick Century.
The rear lights and 3rd brake light remain on and will not shut off. The Hazards will interupt the power. The blinkers just dim the selected light.

I have been unable to locate any info on this problem. Normally people can not get them to light up, my is the exact opposite problem. It drains the battery, I had to pull the fuse to get them to go off.

Several weeks ago the brake line to the rear passenger's wheel cracked. I cut off the section and placed the line connector in place to join the sections back together. I bled the brakes afterwards.
Could the excessive pedal travel then had caused something to fail now?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would definately look at the brake pedal switch. If the gas pedal moved that much, it may have pushed the switch out of adjustment.

I agree. The brake light switch is a button type switch. When the brake pedal is at it's normal height, it depresses the button, and the brake lights are off. When you depress the pedal, the button pops out and the brake lights are lit. You may have inadvertently moved the switch, and the pedal no longer contacts the switch. The brake lights are on all the time. The switch is threaded, and adjusts by turning it. On my 70, I can just push it into adjustment.

    Thanks for the replies.
I looked at the the switch and it seems to me "depressed" as it should be, I think. I will experiment with it some more.
Possibly the excessive extension of the push rod caused the switch to fail al together. It looks like a royal pain to have to replace, as it is covered and blocked by wiring harness, connectors, and such...
