I tried to do this myself and failed so I need help. I will be using a TH350 in the Electra. As the rear end ratio is 3.23 I can't use the 34-39 tooth speedo driven gear sleeve the trans has now. I needed to get a 40-45 tooth count sleeve and a 42 tooth gear (which I now have) to make the speedo accurate. I checked with the two transmission shops in town, a bunch of wrecking yards, asked around and no one had the sleeve I needed. I bit the bullet and ordered one from GM, p/n 1362294. I now have it and it is the wrong part :af: . I got the part# from TCI's site: http://www.tciauto.com/components/speedometer_gears.htm I think that the sleeve I actually got is for a TH400, 36-39 tooth. I admit that I should have got a second opinion before before I ordered it from the local GM dealer, now I may have to eat some crow. I did a little more looking on the 'net and I found what may be the correct part# for the sleeve I need-#25512339. Anyone got an idea if this is the correct sleeve or not? Thanks, Greg
Are you talking about the housing that holds the plastic gear and the speedometer cable? The sleeve should have the gear tooth count that fits in it,usually four gears.
The p/n used to be 1362285, but is probably discontinued and cross referenced to a later one. The p/n I have for the TH350 one (also fits some TH200) is p/n 25512340 for the 34-39 gears. GM usually (not always) does 1 digit higher for the next p/n. So, the 40-45 gear one could be 25512341. Would try to cross reference the old p/n before ordering. Hope this helps, Mark
I know the original housings have the numbers cast on them for which speedo gears will work in that particular housing. If you don't find one by Fri, email me direct at GStage1@buickperformance.com I should be able to find one in the local salvage yard.
Ok, I now have the correct sleeve. It turned out to be p/n 25512339. I have installed it with the new driven gear and all is fine. Mark, thanks for the heads up on the old p/n-1362285 and thanks George for offering to check out a local yard for me, very kind of you. If I ever need another I may come calling. Thanks, Greg
