Hey Guys, I have a question and I'm not sure what category to post in; its about a R12/R134 AC conversion on a 73 model.

    Thanks for the direction, guys.

The best advice I can give you is to properly evacuate the system to get all the moisture out. This is why many conversions are so poor. Keep at like 20in. of vacumn for 45 minutes or so.

    The Real Question....

Actualy my real question is: I know the oil type will change, but do I need to change any parts if I convert from 12 to 134 or will the stock-type parts do?

    Re: The Real Question....

While you can "get by" many times reusing all of the old parts. I would for sure put in a new orifice tube, and recommend a new receiver dryer. Use the esther oil and pull a 30in vac for at least 30-45 minutes. Don't scrimp on the "freon" you put back in...... go with pure R134A. Hybrids are a nightmare to recycle...Use 80% of the volume that you would have used for R12. If you used 2.25lbs of R12, you would use 1.8lbs of R134A. This is where alot of people screw up and damage or blow out their compressors.
I have done a few hundred conversions like this with only one or two not working well afterwards......both cases the compressor needed replaced in the first place, but the customer wanted to cut corners.

I am definitely replacing the compressor, dryer, etc. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't any kind of "mod" needed for the conversion.

Thanks for the input... much appreceated!:Comp:

Nope, no mod, other than the retrofit fittings....... Good luck on your conversion, it sounds like you should have it licked! :TU:
