Went and looked at a 65 Skylark GS convert. over the weekend. It was a non numbers matching engine. There are pics at the link below. Trim Tag 08B 65-44467 FB 298656 TR157 C2 W 2XGP 3H 4S 5KW Engine was LR 523 Heads 1196914 Posi Rear
As I recall in 65 the GS was an option that does not show in the VIN but check with a 65 pro to verify.
Jim, you would be correct in that statement. :TU: It was a mid year introduction as an option. Sales codes were: A3 - GS with 4 speed. A9 - GS with 3 speed manual. B9 - GS with ST300 automatic. However, I'm not a pro with the 65's yet, that's info previously posted. The best way to verify is, of course, original paperwork. The firewall trim tag option codes as below: 08B - Build date 2nd week of August Trim 157 - Red bucket seats C2 - Arctic white body with black convertible top Group 2 X - Super Turbine 300 automatic G - Long console P - Back up lights Group 3 H - Belt reveal moldings Group 4 S - I don't have this one. o No: Group 5 K - Door edge guards W - Seat belts with retractors
Tag Decode Just came across this post and thought I might be able to add some info. My '65 Skylark GS has a Group 4 S in the trim tag and came with a tilt steering column. It is the only option on the car that I have not traced back to an option code so I THINK that is what it is for. Tom did a great job with the option codes but did not mention the Group 1 option code of W (the first letter in the option code line). I THINK is for a tinted windshield. Dan
