need computer help

    I am trying to help a friend with his computer....when the machine boots up and windows starts, there is a message that says:

    "Microsoft Connection Manager error The service profile is damaged. Reinstall the service profile."

    He had win98SE and I just installed win 2000 over it. I thought that would clear it, but no!

    What is that and how do I fix it?
