    Aluminum...

For what it's worth, I purchased an aluminum trailer for my use. I owned a steel, 18' open trailer which did a fine job, but empty it weighed about 2400lb. This new trailer i purchased is very similar to a featherlite, but is a private trailer manufacturer in Youngstown Oh. area. It has a 20' deck, brakes on both axles, pull-out ramps, lighted deck, (makes loading after dark very handy) and the cone on the front...and only weighs 1400lbs. I know weight doesnt mean much because you have quite a truck to pull it, but my half-ton GMC will handle a loaded trailer just fine. The shell on the front keeps my car very clean, even towing during some rain. The deck of the trailer is only 18" above the ground which makes the trailer very stable at highway speeds. The drivers fender is removable so even my buddies "F" bodies doors will clear to open.

A side shot of the whole trailer

Hard to see in this pic, but Kerstin's car has two flat tires on the pass side of car and the door still clears the fender. This trailer was designed for low slung cars such as Vetts, Vipers, Ferraris etc.....

Best deal on a new trailer...

    Okay guys,
I just got done ordering my new trailer and can tell you, after several weeks of research, the best place to go is, no doubt, Salem, Ohio. Quality trailer Mfg. is the company that builds them, DON'T confuse them with Appalachian, another manufacturer located closeby, that builds a lesser trailer! Quality will custom build one for you and sell it through their local dealer, McGlaughlin Trailer Sales (I hope I'm spelling that right). I bought an 18' diamond plate steel deck car hauler (16' + 2' dovetail) with 3500# Dexter EZ lube hub axles (VERY important), D-rings, an aluminum polished triangular tongue box, side mount jack that swivels up, 15" new tires and wheels (silver modular, pretty nice) and brakes on ALL 4 wheels for $1975.00 out the door. I could have bought it for $1850 without the big box on the front but I definitely wanted that and he threw it in for $125, most places charge at least $200 just for the box, unmounted! They will custom paint it and pinstripe it in any number of colors and also add any other options you might want, oh yeah, rear slide-out ramps are standard too. The guy to call is Jeremiah and their number is (330) 222-1255, tell him Mike from Columbus sent you there and he'll know exactly what you're looking for, nothing in it for me but these are GOOD people. All the other places in Ohio selling these same trailers wanted at least $2399 and that wasn't including the aluminum tongue tool/supply box! These guys are who the manufacturer sent me to as they will not sell direct (I tried, but this is their way of not making other dealers mad) they conveniently have a "dealer" right down the road, their way of getting around the problem of selling direct and competing with their dealers ;-) I thought that was pretty cool of them. I'm driving up to pick it up this week as soon as they call me and saving myself about $600!!!
