I am buying a 66/67 arm rest bench seat from a 4 door. The backs do not fold down. Can it be taken apart? Does the back come off with a few bolts? I need to get it shipped but the seller doesn't know how to take it apart. Help!!!! - Bill
My question is why do you have to take it apart. They ship sofas without, same thing. Seems like it's still going to be a big box. And cost almost as much? Good luck!
Ok, thought you were buying it for a 2dr model. You can take them apart but you will need to remove the side bannisters and move the seat to one side and then the other. Will take some effort. Can't ship the seat whole because it will exceed the size limits and/or weight limits.
Thanks George - its for my 4dr special wagon. shipping it like a sofa would mean it has to go freight....not sure I want to go there! - Bill
Well, if the current owner is not too "handy" you won't get the seat to fit in the boxes. FedEx and UPS have a max size limit of 130 inches which equals length + girth. You can take apart the seat but takes a lil effort. In order to recover the seat....the seat sections must come apart. May be worth current owners effort to take the seat to a local upholstery shop for them to take it apart.
Don't the seat backs on a bench come apart like the seat backs on gm bucket seats?? I'm just guessing on this tho... From underneath the seat or up 4 inches on the seats posts should be bolts to detatch the seatbacks. I'm thinking theyre underneath on the benches like the bucket seat.o No: I kno the bucket seat backs can be removed im sure the benches could be too
I just looked at a bench seat in a 69 Vista Cruiser. The back support is welded to the lower seat cushion.......so, you can not take them apart.
