I need a way to tag and label the wiring I'm going to unhook from various area of the motor to yank it.
I've tried the paper tape thing and the tape gets greasy and un readable.
I've also tried wire/paper tags and thous seem to get in the way and tangled together.
    Open to all ideas

Get a cheap digital or instant camera and take lots of pictures from various angles while it's assembled. Then take pics of each wire bundle unhooked, and then a pic of where it should go. Number the pics, so. say you have the alternator wiring pics together, like: 1A shows the alternator all wired up the way it should be, 1B shows one particular wire connector unhooked, and 1C shows where it plugs into the alternator.

Go to the local electrical supply house and buy wire number tags. These are numbered 0-9 and can be used in combination to make any number. Put a number on every wire that you need and write down its use or put the same number on the termination. Or redo your wiring loom neatly so the wires can only go to their home or not fit correctly. Wire number tag sets are fairly inexpensive and can come in handy. You can cut them off in any length you want so they wrap all the way arround and connect to themselves and will fit any size wire.

if you have one of those old label guns that stamp raised letters into the label they work great.

Although not time friendly, you could continue to use paper tape, but then also put scotch tape over that. Then you don't have to worry about grease messing up what you wrote.

use plastic packing tape and a "sharpie" marker to write on it, any grease will wipe right off of the tape but the sharpie ink is next to impossible to remove

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

Incidentally, if you do want to remove 'Sharpie' ink, spray some slilcone lube on it and just wipe it off. Just a little tip to fool the USDA! Works on hands better than any Go-Jo product!:TU:

There is always 'The Handymans Secret Weapon' Duct tape. I think this stuff has about 10,001 uses.

    Dave....

Sorry can't remember where I saw it or who manufactured it, But it was called something like the Motor Labeling system, kinda like a ziptie label and or a heatshrink style label with the words printed into the plastic, like, Alt..., Voltage, A/C, Battery Power Internal, ...ect,..ect,..

I think it was in a auto magazine they were completely fabbing a wiring system for this project car.........

Dang.... now this is going to bug me:rolleyes:

Let me check my mags and see what or where it was, or even if it was in mag..it was a cool Idea:grin:

Anybody.... does this strike a cord? seems recently ...I may ahve read it while waiting on my wife to shop and didn't buy it or I've got it in that massive collection of mags I got.....

give me abit and I'll get back with you
