My brake job took a long break (hah) due to the top end engine work I've been doing, but I've decided to try and finish most of it up this week, as I have all but one part. It's the brace-like arm that goes between the two shoes on the rear brakes--part of the parking brake system I understand. I need it and the spring for it for the passenger side. Any idea where I would get one that fits a 64 Wildcat? (Picture borrowed from the wildcat challenge thread.)
I wouldn't expect to find that available, it's really not a wear item. Hold down and spring kits, yes, but not that. You should be able to get that used. Post in Parts wanted, or in the Nailhead Forum.
Do you have one that you could measure and post those measurements?? I have lots of brake parts, but I don't know what's compatible what what, you know. Maybe I have something you can use. -Josh
Auto parts stores do carry them. They may not carry it for your application, but its worth a shot. They call it an brake equalizer bar or equalizer arm. I forget the exact terminology. But its definitely in the books.
Chris, Local yard here in Clearwater has a 67 GP and I will check it out for you. If the car is still there....I will get both arms and springs.
Chris, Just a good idea....post the part needed here as you did but also post in the Parts Wanted Section.....I check that before I visit the local yards.
The yard crushed the 67 GP and 70 Electra...no old stuff anywhere except a 70 Cad....don't know if that car will have it.
Thanks for everyone's replies. I'll post a message in the parts wanted forum as well George. Thanks for looking in the yard. Jason, you mean like in Napa where they have all those books of parts? If so, I'll go ask there, though the one here in town doesn't seem to be able to get exotic stuff, no matter how mundane we may think it. Aka, they can't get head bolts for a 401 Nail, but they could get a valley pan gasket.
I have also seen them in auto parts stores. I don't know if they'll have your application. Bring in the one you have and match it up. I think I saw them in the HELP section of autozone. Don't expect much help at auto zone or the like though.
I think I found a source for these parts! Part numbers BAF200 (9 1/2" Brakes - Rear Drum Space Bar GM A, F, X-Body) and BAF102 (9 1/2" Drum Space Bar Spring - 2 per car - Each GM A, F, X-Body) from Inline Tube.
Ok, I still need one of these, the one from Inline tube is not the right size as far as I can tell. I didn't buy one, but everything I read says that the A,F, and X bodies have smaller drums than the B bodies. Is that true?
The full size have larger rear drums...should have a longer equalizer bar.....can you measure your original one and let us know the length????
I was in the junk yard today and the oldest things there were a 72 Impala, a 72 Olds Ninety Eight and a 73 LeMans. If I recall, the axles were gone on the 98, but the drums (and I'm assuming internals) were there on the 72 Chevy and the LeMans. Will these fit? -Phil
Chris, the "Cat" has 12" rear brakes & as far as I know there are none available through the aftermarket or NAPA. I have a bunch of Rivs. I can take one off if you're still looking & can't find one. Right rear, correct?? Send me a PM. Tom
I'm not technical when it comes to buick parts problems but I'd wished I could help you out. Try to visit edmunds.com. I'm sure buick enthusiasts can answer this.
Contact Ted (Junkman here) and he should have it...has some full size models for parts and that should not be a problem for him to ship you one or two.
