i talked to both Chilton and Haynes and they say that they don't make a book for my car, what book would have my engine in it? i have a 74 Regal 350 4-B
Factory Service Manual Try looking for a factory service (chassis) manual for your year Buick. Chassis Service Manuals should cover all Buick models of that year. I got one for my 72 and think it's one of the best investments I made towards the car. You should be able to track one down on ebay for $30 $50. Other than that you'd be surprised how much technical info is out there on the internet. Happy Google-ing
There WAS a Chilton's book that included your car... Nothing current though, apparently. In fact I sold or gave away mine last year. It was a big hard cover book, covered all makes from early 70's to late 70's, I believe. I've seen it on ebay a few times too. But like Green Lark says, the factory books are the best investment.
Here's a different version: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6762&item=2468513257
another 73-80: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6762&item=2468252253
The above book would be good. I have a Haynes manual called "Buick Regal and Century Auto Repair Manual" I have a 76 buick Century, and I have found tons of good info on my car. This should work for you unless it was discontinued. On the cover it says "Buick MID-SIZE 74 THRU 87, V6 AND V8, Regal, Century, Wagons. the model # is 19030 (627)
Yep, both haynes and chilton suck. For both my 86 firebird and 80 Virago both manual makers have half of the iinfo wrong. Nothing but the official service manuals work. a book for $20 that cover 50 cars over 10 years will never give the info a book about 1 year will. For my bike the official one was $65 and well worth it. I do have a $20 81-96 all sizes book for it, but only for the pretty color wiring diagrams. Other than that its useless. Ebay is your friend. Them official service books are not allways easy to find but they are out there for everything.
Who made those "official" was it GM ? I'm going to look for a 68 Skylark or A-body book like the picture above . Does that include the torque needed for the motor bolt/screw , how to take off some parts or to replace them etc ... ?
the orginal factory manuals are the best. used a 94 lesabre book for my sis's car and it was worth the 100 bucks for it. (ordered at the service counter) Our honda also had one and worth every penny. the buick one even had descriptions of the transmission valve path for any gear that your in. now I did get a "Motors" manual for my skylark. it covers cars between 1965 or so thru 72. it has engine bolt torques and every other factory specifications for nearly every make between those years. namely on the drive train equipment (engine to rear end)
