Never looked. How are they coded?

The white tag when you pull the belt all the way out.

OK, what's the code though? Numbers, letters?

Got it, I'll check the next time I go into the garage. My car was made the 4th week of January. Should the belts predate that, or maybe in 1969?

The J3 option got you the color matched belts and silver buckle which on the green, brown, & blue interiors really looks nice/classy. On a Black or White interior, it just got the silver buckles since they already came w/black belts (I don't think there was any other difference in the bests themselves) & even that looks very nice. I never realized that the green belts in my old very low option '70 350 4-sp. were optional although also possible someone swapped them in before I got the car. Hard to believe it was ordered that way but I never had a report on it.

@Mike Trom - Was this option a different price on a black vs. blue, green, or brown interior?

Really your body was made by Fisher Body the 4th week of January - IMHO, the closest we have to the date the car rolled off the line @ Buick is the invoice date on a Wayne Roberts or Sloan Doc. So probably mid or even late January on the belts - They were making a LOT of belts everyday unlike say Stage 1 carbs/distributors so they won't predate the car by as much.

Mine has the shoulder belts so presumably like Jason's car it's just missing two of the center buckles. Unfortunately one of my parts cars has the silver (J3) buckles & the other is a brown interior & I don't recall if it has the J3 option (hopefully not) so I need to go through all my other belts & see what I have.

If anyone has a full set of standard black buckle belts for a '70 (05B body) and wants to trade for a set of custom w/the silver buckles (2nd half of model year '70 car but don't recall the date), lmk. Both for Bench seat cars but assuming @Matt Knutson is correct on the lengths, it doesn't matter.

Hmmm.....not so sure about it not mattering on a bucket car. Here's a pic of my belts. The three short ones I took out from the back seat. The long ones go in the front.

The two long ones with the buckle covers removed, are a pair I had in the basement that I matched up. They'll do for now till I can get a better match

As far as silver vs black, can the buckle covers interchange? In other words, can you just take the silver cover off and swap a black cover on?

1/28/70 is the invoice date. I’ll post the belt dates next time I’m in the garage.

You are correct on the different belt lengths. That’s what plenty of mine look like. When it comes to the brand or manufacturer of the belts, they usually went to certain plants,or more of a certain plant, due to location and logistics, but they made their way to different plants to keep the supply on hand. You could also have mixed brands on the same car, just like bolts and fasteners. They didn’t care if they matched. They were not building show cars back then. They were all just another car coming down the line.

OK, took a quick look at my belts today. All of the front belts said either 01A70, or 02A70. All the back belts said 50A69.

No, they are different and were designed to mate with a different female, although the deluxe will mate with the standard female.

No, same price no matter what color.

There are different model numbers on the belts depending on where they go.

Funny every GSX I’ve see had General Safety Belts. We had to hunt for Hamill brand belts for friends 442.
