    Hello,

    I'm thinking of buying this '71 car to fix up.
    The owner has the car in a primer state.
    All my books are for 1972 Buicks
    He emailed me the numbers off of the body plate.

    ST71 44437 FL1 126 764 BDY
    TR 165 42 42 PNT
    030

    ST71 = 1971
    44437 = Skylark Custom??
    TR165 = Ivory interior??
    42 42 = ??

    It would be a great help if someone could decode this for me.
    And correct any info that I might have wrong.
    Thank you for your time.

    Bert

    Thank you for your help!!

    Thanks Jim and Pat for your quick replies.

    You guys just saved me a 3 hour drive to see this Buick.

    I've been on the phone and emails for 2 weeks now with this guy who claims he has a 1971 GS350. He sent me pictures. The car has a GS hood and even the namplates. No air cleaner. That is how he bought the car. He was going to drag with this car and found out how hard Buick parts are hard to get.
    Tonight he email me the above body plate.
    Body plates never lie unless the guy knows what he is doing.

    I just email the guy and gave him the bad news. Also told him that I will consider your car if the price is right. (As a Skylark Custom of course)

    Again many thanks. :TU:

    just FY and the sellers I the correct trim code/VIN code for a GS would be 43437 or 43467 (convertible) or 44637/44667 for a GS455/GS400 68-70.

    No Skylark!!

    Hi Tim,

    No. I didn't buy this Skylark.
    He still claims it is a GS. Because the guy who sold it to him said it was a GS.
    He wanted $4500.00 Cdn. And it needs a lot of work even to make it good GS clone.
    Still looking for a GS hard top here in Ontario. Something will come up. I'm in no hurry.
    Talk to you soon, Bert :beer
