i am in need of 1 aluminum rocker arm from my 71 455. i was going to to use the rockers off of my xtra 74 motor but they are steel.
I recommend using the stamped steel rockers, as they are sturdy and cheap. I still have the aluminum rockers we took out of my '70 Stage motor when Randy Seaman helped me rebuild it in the Winter of '87 or '88. We found that a number of the valve bearing surfaces were excessively worn and had several chips, possibly due to excessive wear with resultant battering. When I rebuilt the engine again with Erich Davis, the steel rockers were still perfect, despite the hammering I had given them while street racing. I think the aluminum do have a slightly better angle than the steel, but I couldn't tell a difference, and prefer to know the valve train is sturdy. Too, with the valve covers on it, no one knows but you.... Dan
